Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the Armistice which ended

Between April and August 1941 around 14,000 Australian soldiers were

besieged in Tobruk by a German-Italian army. Tobruk, a small town on
the Libyan Coast was vital for the Allies’ defence of Egypt and the Suez
Canal. During WWII it was of critical importance in the North African
campaign. For more than 240 days the Australian 9th Division was
subjected to repeated ground assaults and almost constant shelling and
bombing.

65th Anniversary - The Battle of
3RAR fought a vital delaying action from the hills above the Kapyong
Kapyong (Korean War)
River Valley, South Korea. Despite being vastly outnumbered they held
the Chinese force and contributed to the failure of the Chinese spring
offensive in 1951. All Australians who served in the Korean War are
remembered on this date.

Reserve Forces Day National Parade
Reserve Forces Day has been celebrated each year since 1998 to
honour Navy, Army and Air Force reserves and acknowledge the
contribution of the militia, citizen military forces and reserve forces who

100th Anniversary - Inauguration of
The Australian Comforts Fund was established in August 1916 to
the Australian Comforts Fund
coordinate the activities of the state based patriotic funds, which were
established earlier in World War I. Mainly run by women, they provided
and distributed free comforts to the Australian 'fit' fighting men in all the
battle zones. It ceased operation on 10 April 1920 and was reconstituted
in World War II in June 1940 and ceased operation again on 27 June
1946.

50th Anniversary - Malaya and
The Commonwealth Department of Veterans’ Affairs designated 31
Borneo Veterans’ Day
August as the official date to commemorate historical campaigns
involving Australian Defence Personnel – The Malayan Emergency
(1955-1960) a guerrilla war fought between Commonwealth Armed
Forces and the Malayan Races Liberation Army; the Brunei Revolt (19621963) began on 8 December 1962 when North Kalimantan National Army
rebels launched coordinated attacks on Brunei Town. The action became
the precursor of the Indonesian Confrontation, an undeclared war which
began with a series of Indonesian cross-border raids into Malaysian
territory which came to involve troops from Australia, New Zealand and
Britain.

The Battle for Australia ceremony has been conducted in Martin Place on

Kokoda Day (Second World War)
The barrier between the Japanese forces in the Papuan north and Port
Moresby on the south coast was the Owen Stanley Range –steep, rugged
mountains crossed only by a few foot tracks. The most important track
was the Kokoda. At the end of June 1942 Australian forces were ordered
to hold Kokoda and its airfield against Japanese attack. 3 November
marks the day victory was declared. The campaign cost Australia over
6,000 casualties.

On 19 November 1941, HMAS Sydney, was lost following a battle with
