“GEOMETRY IN THE REAL WORLD” PROJECT
This first six weeks we will study numerous geometry vocabulary words and symbols. Now it is
time to find how geometry fits into the world around you. By completing this project, you will see
some of geometry’s presence in the real world!!
ASSIGNMENT: By using a PowerPoint or creating a video, you will display examples in everyday life
that illustrate the major vocabulary words we have (and will) study. Your project must include a
picture, vocabulary term, and a definition written or spoken in your own words. It must be neat,
organized, and creative. Your project must have a theme. Each picture should be related to that
specific theme.
STEP 1) Choose which 20 geometry terms you think you want to use for your project. You can only
use each word once. Decide on an overall theme.
STEP 2) Find a real-world example of these 20 words. You can get your pictures from the Internet,
a magazine, or by taking pictures or video with your own camera.
STEP 3) In your presentation, you must include the term, definition, and picture or video. Each
picture or video must include a definition written or spoken in your own words.
STEP 4) Organize your project in a creative way. You can organize and design the presentation in
any way. The more creative you are, the better!!!
Here are the words to choose from:
point
line
plane
collinear
coplanar
segment
ray
opposite rays
congruent
midpoint
triangle
parallelogram
quadrilateral
obtuse
straight
adjacent angles
complementary angles
supplementary angles

GRADING: This project will count as a TEST/PROJECT GRADE.
As long as the project is complete and turned in, and you followed the directions, you will not get
below a 70. This rubric tells you how I will grade you. You are in charge of your own grade!!
RUBRIC:
20 PICTURES
(1.5 points for each correct picture)
The picture must be a correct example of the vocabulary
word you are using. For example, if you tell me “right
angle”, the picture needs to clearly be of a right angle.
=
30 points
20 DEFINITIONS
(1.5 points for each correct definition)
The definition must be the correct definition for the vocabulary
word you are using. For example, a correct definition of a
“right angle” would be: “A right angle is an angle whose
measure is 90 degrees”. If it is a word we have already
studied, your definition should be precise. If it is a word we
have not studied yet, just write the best definition that you can.
=
30 points
THEME
All pictures follow a common theme and it is clear to the individual
that is viewing the project.
=
10 points
ORGANIZATION/NEATNESS
(final product is nice and neat)
The finished product should be neatly organized and not messy!
It should be easy to read and have a nice appearance. I can tell
if you did it the class period before it was due!
=
15 points
CREATIVITY
(product turned in shows creativity)
Your project shows that you put some thought and effort into it.
It is decorated nicely and shows that you understand the terms.
The more creative your pictures, the better your grade (meaning
you don’t have the same exact picture as almost everyone else).
=
15 points
THIS PROJECT IS DUE ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 FOR “A DAY” STUDENTS
AND DUE ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 FOR “B DAY” STUDENTS. NO
EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!! YOU WILL RECEIVE A 0 IF NO PROJECT IS TURNED IN.
REMEMBER...THIS IS A TEST GRADE!
