OFFICIAL NOTICE
Energy Performance of Buildings Assessor Training (EPCs) &
compulsory Refresher Training for existing EPC assessors.
Course date for new assessors: 7th – 9th June 2016
Refresher course date for existing assessors: 10th June 2016
HM Government of Gibraltar continues to contribute to the fulfilment of Europe’s energy
efficiency commitments to combat the threat of climate change. The Energy Performance of
Buildings Directive (EPBD) is aimed at reducing the amount of energy consumed by buildings in order to
reduce carbon emissions and was transposed by the Environment (Energy Performance of Buildings)
Regulations of October 2012. These Regulations set the minimum energy performance requirements for
new and existing buildings and the provisions for Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).
The Simplified Building Energy Model Gibraltar (SBEM-GI) was developed by the Building Research
Establishment (BRE), as part of Gibraltar’s obligations under the EPBD. This is the official
Government approved methodology used to calculate the energy performance of dwellings and
non-domestic buildings, as well as to carry out building regulations compliance checks.
The Department of the Environment and Climate Change will once again be offering a training
course on the SBEM-GI as an opportunity for new individuals to join the list of Government
accredited energy assessors for the production of EPC’s.
The Building Research Establishment will be delivering a three day course on the use of the
SBEM-GI model from the 7th to the 9th June 2016 at the University of Gibraltar from 9am to 5pm. The
course is open only to those who have the relevant qualifications, and a minimum of 5 years’ experience
within the construction industry (architects, engineers, energy consultants, etc).
The course cost is £599.
In addition, the ISBEM software is currently being upgraded and the new version will shortly be
launched, along with revisions to the Building Rules Part F and associated Approved Documents. All
current assessors must undertake the refresher course in order to comprehend these changes and
maintain assessor status. The course will take place on Friday 10th June 2016 at the University of
Gibraltar from 9am to 4pm.
The cost for refresher training is £199.
Further details on the course and applications forms can be obtained from the Department of the
Environment and Climate Change at [email protected] or Tel no. 20066508.
Please note places are limited and applications must be in by no later than Friday 6 th May
2016.
