Vegetation in the Comunidad de Madrid
The vegetation that we find in the Comunidad de Madrid depends on the physical relief and climate
of the area.
Mountain pine forest.
Deciduous forest.
We find this type of
forest on the slopes
of mountain ranges
in Madrid. The Scots
pine is the most common
tree in these forests, but
we can also find yews
and holly.
We find this type of
forest on the lower
slopes of mountain
ranges in Madrid. The
most common trees in
these forests include the
Pyrenean oak, ash trees,
beech trees, and shrubs,
like the rockrose and
brambles.
Scots pines.

Crops
Pyrenean oak
in the Lozoya valley.
Mediterranean forest.
We find this type of vegetation on plains. The most
common tree in these forests is the Holm oak. It’s
an evergreen tree with small, hard leaves that help
the tree to resist droughts. In the southwest, we
also find forests of Stone pines or pinos piñoneros.

Stone pine.
Riparian vegetation.
Crops.
Along the banks of
rivers, we find
various trees such as
willows, alders and
poplars, as well as
shrubs, like brambles,
reeds and bullrushes.
We find crops in
many areas, but
especially in the south
and southeast. In some
areas we find dryland
crops (olives, grapes,
wheat and barley) and
in other areas we find
irrigated crops (fruit
and vegetables).
Willow on the bank
of the River Henares.
Holm oak.
Vineyard in the
Comunidad de Madrid.
