CCNA Cisco Certified Network Associate Study Guide (Exam 640-801), by Richard Deal, ISBN: 0072229349, DOI: 10.1036/0072229349 Error on Page 83: In the TCP/IP and DoD reference models: TCP/IP Reference Model - OSI Layers 1 and 2, are condensed into the Network Interface Layer DoD Reference Model - OSI Layers 1 and 2, are condensed into the Network Access Layer Why are Data Link and Physical layers listed (and even separated) in the given TCP/IP Protocol Stack example? The book does not offer information about what occurs at the Data Link and Physical TCP/IP Protocol Stack levels; probably because the two are not part of the TCP/IP Protocol Stack! The Data Link and Physical layers should be condensed into the Network Interface Layer (or Network Access Layer in the DoD model) where network protocol suites, such as Ethernet, Frame Relay, FDDI, Token Ring, and ATM take control. They don’t contain TCP/IP protocols and are not part of the TCP/IP Protocol Stack.
