About the Race
Organized by the University of Alaska Anchorage and Anchorage Parks &
Recreation, five running races are held simultaneously - including the
Midnight Sun Marathon (26.2 miles), Alaska Half Marathon (13.1 miles), a
marathon relay (4 x 6.5 mile legs), Coastal 5K and Buddy Half Marathon, in
which teams of two split the half marathon into two or three sections.
The race expo takes place June 16-17, with the races taking to the course on
June 18, 2016. Online registration is available through the Anchorage
Mayor’s Marathon website.

About the Course
The marathon course takes marathoners from the foothills of the Chugach
Mountains on the east side of Anchorage, to Delaney Park alongside
downtown and the steely waters of Cook Inlet on the west - offering
breathtaking scenery to stimulate the senses and take one's worries off
physical exertion. The marathon course is certified by USA Track and Field
and finishers can use their results to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
The Alaska Half Marathon Starts and ends on Delaney Park with an out-andback course past Earthquake Park near Point Woronzof.

About the Expo
• The Anchorage Mayor’s Marathon & Half Marathon, presented by
ConocoPhillips, is teaming this year with Providence Alaska Medical Center
and Healthy Futures to present the second annual Alaska Health & Fitness
Expo, June 16-17, at the Alaska Airlines Center.
• In addition to last-minute registration and bib pick-up, this year’s Expo has
been greatly expanded to include a multitude of activities for racers and nonracers alike. Along with more than 60 exhibitors and vendors, the event will
feature an outdoor farmer’s market, free health screenings, and the return of
the Healthy Futures Kid’s Mile run. There will also be free workshops and
demonstrations that will focus on health and fitness, plus the chance to
check out the Alaska Airlines Center’s full-service restaurant, the Varsity
Sports Grill.
• Making its debut in 2016 is the Varsity Sports Grill Pub Run – June 17,
2015. This is a free, social run that is untimed. Participants can start at their
leisure between 5-6 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center main parking lot.
Runners will be taken on a course that loops around University Lake and
then finishes in the Grill. Free door prizes will be raffled off throughout the
evening.

Healthy Futures Kids Mile
Healthy Futures – Kid’s Mile is a free event for youth of grade school age with a full
mile or half-mile option. Held at the Alaska Airlines Center in tandem with the Alaska
Health & Fitness Expo.
This year’s event will include
special appearances from
Healthy Hero's selected by the
Healthy Futures organization as
well as the leader of the race,
Alaska’s very own Mushing
Mortician, Scott Janssen
Janssen will lead the kids
around the course with his
trusty dog sled and team

Healthy Futures Kids Mile
Healthy Futures Kids Mile is featured on the evening news sports segment during the
late edition.
It is also covered during a live
radio spot produced by 101.3KGOT
an iHeartRadio affiliate.
The Kids Mike is promoted through
efforts provided by Healthy Futures
and United Way of Alaska as well as
ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc. and
Providence Alaska Medical Center.
The Anchorage Marathon promotes the event through social media outlets, email
newsletter, and the AnchorageMarathon.Com website. Additional promoters include
Visit Anchorage, the Anchorage School District, Alaska Public Media
and participating exhibitors.

Varsity Sports Grill Pub Run Series
The Varsity Sports Grill Pub Run Series is a new addition to the Alaska Health &
Fitness Expo this year.
Runner will have the opportunity to join us for a free social running event each Friday
beginning as early as March and
Continuing through June 17, 2016.
There will be a casual start beginning
At 6:00 PM at the Alaska Airlines
Center. Running courses will vary from
week to week in length, direction and
difficultly .
All courses will commence at the Varsity
Sports Grill where runners will be treated to craft beers on tap, fine wine, a full
menu, entertainment including door prices, live music and more.
Approximately 150-300 weekly participants

Run With the Seawolves
Also new this year is the Running with the Seawolves program. The program is three
week training clinic offered to middle school – high school age students. Participants
will train with UAA Seawolf Student-Athletes and coaches and pay a small fee which
will include their entry to either the Alaska Half-Marathon or Coastal 5k. Clinics will be
held twice weekly beginning May 31, 2016 and ending June 16, 2016.
Coaches include, UAA Head Coach Michael Friess.
Friess has earned 16 conference coach-of-the-year
accolades in cross country, including five straight
women’s coach-of-the-year honors from 2009-13.
Assistant Coach Anthony Tomsich. Tomsich has
helped secure nine All-America certificates and three
GNAC individual titles. In indoor and outdoor track &
field, Tomsich has been on scene for three NCAA
individual crowns and 42 All-America performances.

Finishers Village | Sponsorship and Exhibits
The Finishers Village is an accommodation center built for race participants and race
supporters. It will be located near the finish line along the Delaney Park Strip in
Downtown Anchorage. The Finishers Villages will include an aid station, race results
and information, medical tent, food vendors, and other exhibits.
