WEB DESIGN ESSENTIAL LEARNING OUTCOMES WORKSHEET Big Idea: What do we want students to know? Essential Learning Outcome: The teachers will focus the content that students will learn through collaborative teaming and referencing published content standards. Date: June 1, 2011 Course: Web Design Course Description: This course is designed to familiarize students with the creation and management of websites. The class will focus on website planning, basic design, layout, and construction. Students will learn basic html structure and formatting and use the Adobe Web Design Premium software suite including Dreamweaver. Course Rationale: In an ever changing business world the web is a vital communication tool therefore better preparing our students in this high demand occupation is essential. This course will allow our students to experience real world applications in web design. 1. Big Idea: Introductory Concepts Essential Learning Outcome: (1) The student examine the history of the Web. (2) The student will be able evaluate web resources (reliability, creditability). (3) The student will be able to apply copyright laws in all Web-related projects and practice personal Internet safety. 2. Big Idea: Effective Web Site Essential Learning Outcome: (1) The student will be able to define Web page design principles and elements. (2) The student will be able determine the purpose of the Web site and identify the target audience. (3) The student will be able to plan an organized layout (storyboard).and use appropriate Web-safe colors and fonts. 3. Big Idea: Images Essential Learning Outcome: (1) The student will be able recognize the different image types and their extensions (gif, jpg). (2) The student will be use an image editing program to adjust and transform images (crop, rotate). 4. Big Idea: Page Creation Skills Essential Learning Outcome: (1) The student will be use Web authoring software to create Web pages (Dreamweaver). (2) The student will be able to identify and apply HTML tags and attributes for basic Web page design. 5. Big Idea: Web Page Management Techniques Essential Learning Outcome: (1) The student will be explain and use Web publishing techniques. (2) The student will be contrast Web hosting account options (free vs paid).
