Calf Pasture Beach Norwalk, Conn.
TEAM CAPTAIN’S KIT
Welcome!
We are so excited and grateful to have you join us at the 14th annual Whittingham
Cancer Center Walk and Sally’s Run taking place on April 29 at Calf Pasture Beach
in Norwalk, CT. Since its inception, proceeds from the walk and run remain in this
community to support patient programs and services provided at the
Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital.
We are thrilled to share that the Cancer Center is in its new location with both the
new Radiation Oncology Suite and new Medical Oncology Suite open.
The community certainly has cause for celebration. The new Center doubles the
existing treatment space and combines the latest in life-saving technologies with
the medical expertise and personalized care the community has come to rely on –
all in a warm, expansive new facility.
Each year, the caregivers in the Whittingham Cancer Center oversee over 30,000
patient visits with nearly 800 of them being newly diagnosed patients. Thanks to
the support of a generous community, the new Center will continue the hospital’s
long tradition of providing the very best in compassionate cancer care.
Thank you for the leadership, dedication and passion you demonstrate for this
wonderful event. We look forward to seeing you on April 29!

As a Team Captain you will…
 Determine the team name and goal
 Recruit team members
 Customize the team webpage on the walk/run website with your team’s
story, photos, etc.
 Provide leadership, create enthusiasm and share important
communications with your team to keep them motivated and engaged
Here’s how:
Register – visit www.nhwalkrun.org and register yourself and create or bring back
your team, then invite people to join you by emailing them with a link to the
website
Recruit – ask friends, family members, co-workers to join your team and help
raise funds
Fundraise – set a goal and work to achieve it … or even surpass it! Fundraising
ideas & tips can be found on the walk/run website
Build Team Spirit – Team signs will be provided to any team interested in having
one for the day of the walk. If you would like a sign, please email your team name
to [email protected] by April 21. Team Signs will be distributed during t-shirt
pick up days as well as at walk/run registration.
Participate – Walk. Run. - Sing. Dance. - Celebrate. - Remember.
Teams raising $1,000 or more by April 14 will have their team name listed on
the back of the t-shirt and the event Thank You Banner!
Fundraising Ideas:
Sweet Temptations – tap into your inner “Martha Stewart” and hold a bake sale
with your team members
Birthday Bonanza – instead of birthday presents, invite family and friends to
make a tax-deductible gift to your team in your honor
Keep the Change – Set up a jar in the kitchen and place all your loose change in it
at the end of each week. Ask a local business if they will place a “keep the
change” jar near their register where customers can donate their change to the
Whittingham Cancer Center.
Garage Sale – hold a team tag sale and donate the proceeds to your team’s
fundraising effort
“Dress Up” Day – Dress down days are fun, but how often do you see folks
conduct a “Dress Up” day! Have co-workers donate $5 or $10 to dress to the 9s
for the day. You’ll definitely get heads to turn and draw attention to this great
cause.
VIP Parking – if there is a highly coveted parking spot at work, ask management if
they will be willing to raffle it off to one employee’s use for a month or a season
All Washed Up – conduct a car wash in late March, early April in your
neighborhood or place of business
How Do I Handle Check Donations?
When fundraising for your team, the fastest and easiest way to process donations
is to ask potential supporters to visit the walk/run website. When donations are
made online via credit card, donors receive an immediate acknowledgement of
their donation and participant/team totals are updated within minutes!
www.nhwalkrun.org
If you collect cash or check donations in support of your team, you can mail the
donations to the address below or bring them to the Foundation Office at
Norwalk Hospital.
If you choose to mail in donations, please send them to:
Norwalk Hospital Foundation
WCC Walk/Run
34 Maple Street
Norwalk, CT 06856
Check donations - Checks should be made out to the Norwalk Hospital
Foundation. In the check’s memo section, please include the Team Name or
Participant’s Name so the money is credited appropriately.
Cash donations - Please include the donor’s name and address information, and
the Team Name or Participant’s Name so the cash can be added to the correct
team/individual’s fundraising page. Without complete information, cash donors
will not receive an acknowledgement of their gift and gifts will not be added to
your total!
Please Note – Offline donations may take up to two weeks to process and be
added to your individual/team total on the website. If you wish to have gifts
reflected immediately, please direct people to make donations online.
