BACKGROUND
http://vphcap.wixsite.com/ghit2017
Global Health Institute – Thailand 2017 represents an international collaboration between two World Organisation
for Animal Health (OIE) Collaborating Centres for Veterinary Services Capacity Building: the Center for Animal Health
and Food Safety (CAHFS), University of Minnesota, and the Veterinary Public Health Centre for Asia Pacific (VPHCAP),
Chiang Mai University, also an Excellence Centre for Veterinary Public Health at Chiang Mai University. The GHI
provides an opportunity for participants from university, government and industry sectors to meet together with
faculties from the University of Minnesota and academic institutions in Thailand to examine the impact of
globalization on health and identify strategies that support a healthy and productive global workforce.
The 5th GHI offers intensive study combined with a 2 day research conference in support of the goal of OneHealth
Leadership in emerging diseases at the convergence of animal, human and environmental health. The GHI program
offers 6 course options for participants in order to fulfill and complement the OneHealth Leadership experiences. The
GHI 2017 - Thailand offers a great opportunity for all participants to share knowledge and strengthen professional
networks.
To understand One Health approaches by using an interactive mapping process to build consensus on
best practices and standardized operating procedures for current and future cross-sectoral work for
outbreak detection and response
OBJECTIVES
To better understand ‘grand challenges’: complex, multi-factorial, systemic issues emerging at the
convergence of public health, animal health, economic development and environmental health
To develop key leadership skills for catalyzing collective action including: Communications,
Working across boundaries, Influence, Vision and strategic thinking, Accomplishing results and
catalyzing change
To update knowledge and share OneHealth experiences and success stories
To increase opportunities to use these technical skills and leadership competencies to address
complex challenges and opportunities, such as global food security, emerging infectious diseases,
or the control of catastrophic animal disease
To nurture integrative research and diffusion of learning in human, animal and environmental interaction
through a collaborative network among international researchers
