The Global Health Institute (GHI) - Thailand began in 2012 as a collaboration between the Veterinary Public Health Centre for Asia Pacific at Chiang Mai University and various partners around the world. The program is designed to strengthen relevant technical skills and identify opportunities for catalyzing collective action for the benefit of public health, food security and ecosystem health. 5-24 FEB 2017 GHI-THAILAND Through interprofessional education, the GHI has benefited participants across Asia by expanding collective leadership action to protect present and future generations and our world. The GHI provides an opportunity for participants from university, government and industry sectors to meet together with faculties from the University of Minnesota and academic institutions in Thailand to examine the impact of globalization on health and identify strategies that support a healthy and productive global workforce. The 5th GHI offers intensive study combined with a 2 day research conference in support of the goal of OneHealth Leadership in emerging diseases at the convergence of animal, human and environmental health. The GHI program offers 6 course options for participants in order to fulfill and complement the OneHealth Leadership experiences. The GHI 2017 - Thailand offers a great opportunity for all participants to share knowledge and strengthen professional networks. To understand One Health approaches by using an interactive mapping process to build consensus on best practices and standardized operating procedures for current and future cross-sectoral work for outbreak detection and response OBJECTIVES To better understand ‘grand challenges’: complex, multi-factorial, systemic issues emerging at the convergence of public health, animal health, economic development and environmental health To develop key leadership skills for catalyzing collective action including: Communications, Working across boundaries, Influence, Vision and strategic thinking, Accomplishing results and catalyzing change To update knowledge and share OneHealth experiences and success stories To increase opportunities to use these technical skills and leadership competencies to address complex challenges and opportunities, such as global food security, emerging infectious diseases, or the control of catastrophic animal disease To nurture integrative research and diffusion of learning in human, animal and environmental interaction through a collaborative network among international researchers http://vphcap.wixsite.com/ghit2017 ABOUT THE GLOBAL HEALTH INSTITUTE – THAILAND 2017 The 3-week program will be conducted from 5 – 24 February 2017 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The 1st week (5-9 Feb) offers participants the option to select one of two intensive courses: Global Health Leadership at the convergence at animal, human and environment for Outbreak Response using One Health Systems Mapping and Analysis (OHSMART) tool or an introduction to Participatory Epidemiology Approach to One Health – EcoHealth. The research conference will be organized on 10-11 February focusing on new research findings and exchange experiences between experts, governments, private sector, academic scientists, graduate and doctoral-level students covered the following themes; Emerging and Re-emerging diseases Antimicrobial resistance Application of risk analysis Epidemiological tools and application Food safety and hygiene The participant will be able to select additional intensive courses in the following two weeks (13-17 and 20-24 February) focusing on Participatory Epidemiology Approach to One Health – EcoHealth 2 (Community Base), Social Network Analysis, Farm to Table and Food Safety Risk Analysis all within the framework of One Health.
