Lesson 10-6 Quadrilaterals
Quadrilateral – a polygon with four sides and angles
Types of Quadrilaterals
Trapezoids – a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides
Parallelogram - a quadrilateral with two pairs of opposite sides parallel
Rectangle – a parallelogram with four right angles
Rhombus - a parallelogram with four congruent sides
Square – a parallelogram with four right angles and four congruent sides
Kite – a quadrilateral with two pair of adjacent sides congruent
Example 1 Classify Quadrilaterals
Classify the quadrilateral using the name that best describes it.
The quadrilateral has opposite sides parallel and opposite sides
congruent. It is a parallelogram.
Example 2 Classify Quadrilaterals
Classify the quadrilateral using the name that best describes it.
The quadrilateral has one pair of parallel sides. It is a
trapezoid.
Sum of the measure of interior angles in a quadrilateral is 360⁰.
Example 3 Find a Missing Measure
ALGEBRA Find the value of x in the quadrilateral shown.
Write and solve an equation.
Words
The sum of the measures is 360.
Variable
Let x represent the missing measure.
Equation
84 + 62 + 73 + x = 360
84 + 62 + 73 + x = 360
219 + x = 360
– 219
– 219
x = 141
Write the equation.
Simplify.
Subtract 219 from each side.
So, the missing angle measure is 141.
