Class V LITERATURE Poem – Teacher’s pest Children are asked to draw the picture and write the poem in notebook. I. S.No. 1. Explanation Stanza 1RTC It was _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ to learn. - These lines are taken from the poem ‘Teacher’s pest’, written by Roann Mendriq. Through this poem he has show-cased a classroom scene where the teacher and the students are enjoying learning. He has also tried to convey that our role models, our teachers, too have feelings. Here Mendriq has portrayed the fear that his teacher faces. Explanation The poet exclaims that it was his usual day to school. His teacher entered the class with a smile and motivated the children to learn to solve mathematical problems. Stanza 2- I sat _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ RTC - Same as in stanza 1. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ multiplication sums. Explanation - In these lines the poet tells us that he sat quietly in his place, busy twiddling his thumbs in fear, as he was not able to understand anything. Still he was trying his best to concentrate, on solving multiplication sums. Stanza 3- Teacher sat _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ statue. . . froze. RTC - same as in stanza 1. Explanation In this stanza the poet says that once all were engrossed (engaged) in mathematics she sat in her chair. The poet adds on that she was wearing specs. Suddenly she gasped aloud out of fear and froze like a statue. Stanza 4- A spider _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ RTC - with feeling. same as in stanza 1. Explanation Through these lines the poet conveys the reason behind the teacher’s fear. The teacher was so frightened that she was transfixed on seeing a spider coming down from the ceiling, which according to the poet is its home. Stanza 5- Her face _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ very clear. RTC - same as in stanza 1. Explanation In these lines the poet describes teacher’s fear. He say that her face turned pale and her eyes became dull and lifeless. As the spider looked into the teacher’s eye – the poet could make out one thing. Stanza 6- Teachers are _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ RTC - same as in stanza 1. __________ with glee. Explanation Here the poet expresses his opinion that teachers are also like you and me. They have feelings. It makes him feel delighted to know that just like he feared multiplication sums similarly his teacher too fears a spider.
