What are the Properties of a Rectangle?
What is a rectangle?
a parallelogram
with four right angles.
A rectangle has seven properties:
1.) Opposite sides are parallel
2.) Opposite sides are congruent
3.) Opposite angles are congruent
4.) Diagonals bisect each other
5.) Consecutive angles are supplementary
6.) All four angles are right angles (All angles are congruent)
7.) Diagonals are congruent

Let's apply the properties of a rectangle to help solve some examples:
Quadrilateral ABCD is a rectangle.
Use the figure provided to answer
the following questions:
1.)
2.)
If AC = 2x + 13 and DB = 4x – 1, find DB. If AE = 3x + 3 and EC = 5x – 15, find
AC.

Let's apply the properties of a rectangle to help solve some examples:
Quadrilateral ABCD is a rectangle.
Use the figure provided to answer
the following questions:
3.)
If DE = 6x – 7 and
AE = 4x + 9, find DB.
4.)
If m<DAC = 2x + 4 and
m<BAC = 3x + 1, find
m<BAC.
5.)
If m<BAC = x + 3 and
m<CAD = x + 15, find

challenge question
Archie has a piece of cardboard from which he wants to
cut a rectangle with a diagonal that measures 12 inches.
On one edge of the cardboard Archie makes two points
that are less than 12 inches apart to be the endpoints of
one side of the rectangle. Explain how Archie can use two
pieces of string that are each 12 inches long to find the
other two vertices of the rectangle.
