Ozone is formed in this layer due to absorption of UV radiation. When ozone
forms, heat is released which causes temperature to increase.
How does pressure change with altitude?
As altitude increase (you climb higher) pressure decrease (fewer molecules
pushing down on you)

Describe/illustrate the movement of air in a low pressure systems.
Warm air associated with low pressure systems will rise and rotate counter clockwise.
Why do clouds form over low pressure systems?
As the warm air rises in a low pressure system, the water vapor in the air will condense due to the lower
temperatures in the upper atmosphere. Then water vapor condenses, clouds can form is dust particles are present.
Describe/illustrate the movement of air in a high pressure systems.
Cold air associated with high pressure systems will fall and rotate clockwise.
Describe/illustrate what happens when a warm air mass comes in contact with a cold air mass. Why does this
happen?
Warm air will rise above the cold air mass because it is less dense (molecules are farther apart- not as closely
packed). When this happens, clouds will form, precipitation may fall because of condensation that occurs as a result
of lower temperatures in the upper atmosphere.
What causes local surface winds?
Differences in pressure caused by unequal heating of the Earth’s surfaces.
List the conditions necessary for a hurricane to form.
High humidity (lots of water vapor)
A depression (such as a thunderstorm)
Warm sea surface temperatures (at least 26.5°C or 80°F)
