While much of the emphasis on math instruction these days is on higher-level skills, the basics are still crucial. The activities, which address a broad range of skills, progress from basic to challenging and are designed to meet the needs of math students in grades 4 through 8. The book begins with equivalent fractions and continues through percents. Several activities include word problems. All of the activities are self-correcting. Students are presented with a question at the beginning of the activity, which they can answer by correctly solving the problems of the activity. For most of the activities, a few problems that do not help to answer the questions are included as a means of making the activities more challenging. The questions that begin the activities are derived from various subjects, including geography, history, science, ecology, and pop culture. Many of the questions have a touch of trivia about them, which, we have found over the years, students enjoy. All of the questions are based on fact. An answer key is included at the end of the book.
