Chemistry – Summer Packet 2016
1. Please know the first 20 elements on the periodic table.
You should know the name and the whole number that matches the symbol of the
elements.
For example:
The symbol Li on the periodic table is called Lithium.
The whole number for Li on the periodic table is #3.
H is Hydrogen and it is # 1 on the periodic table.
2. Please review the metric system and conversions.
You should know for example:
a) Units (Metric System)
m = meters
g = grams
kg = kilograms
ml = milliliters
L = Liters
K = Kelvin
b) Conversions:
Example:
1000 ml = 1 L
1000 g = 1 kg
3. Please review Scientific Notations.
Example:
1000
=
1 x 103
2.3 x 105
=
230000
1.5 x 10 -4
=
0.00015
4. Complete the two worksheets on Scientific Notation and Metric
Conversions. Both packets are due on FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. Also there
will be a QUIZ on the second day of school on the first 20 elements.
5. Study the list of Polyatomic Ions. Make sure to know the chemical formula of the
polyatomic ions, charge and their correct name (Worksheet 3). You WILL BE
TESTED on this during the first marking period. Complete the Polyatomic Ions
worksheets and hand in on FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.
