Finding the square root using prime factorization
To find the square root of number using prime factorization, you first have to write the number as a product of prime numbers. You can use a factor tree to write a number as a product of prime numbers.
Step 1) Find the prime Factors of 400
ONLY prime numbers in tree
400

225 put in pairs
Step 2) Find the square root by putting the factors in pairs, under a √ ,
then calculate.
√ 400 = √(2x2)x(2x2)x(5x5)
√ 400 = √(2x2)x √(2x2)x √(5x5)
pairs
separate
calculate the √ of each pair remember the √ 400 = 2 x 2 x 5 = 20
√ 2x2 = √4 = 2
