We Are A Blessed People
by Pastor Fee Soliven
Ephesians 1:4-14
Sunday Morning
August 23, 2015
Ephesians 1:4-18
4 just as He chose us in Him before
the foundation of the world, that we
should be holy and without blame
before Him in love, 5 having
predestined us to adoption as sons
by Jesus Christ to Himself, according
to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to
the praise of the glory of His grace,
by which He has made us accepted
in the Beloved.
7 In Him we have redemption
through His blood, the forgiveness
of sins, according to the riches of
His grace 8 which He made to
abound toward us in all wisdom
and prudence, 9 having made
known to us the mystery of His
will, according to His good
pleasure which He purposed in
Himself,
10 that in the dispensation of the
fullness of the times He might gather
together in one all things in Christ,
both which are in heaven and which
are on earth--in Him. 11 In Him also
we have obtained an inheritance,
being predestined according to the
purpose of Him who works all things
according to the counsel of His will, 12
that we who first trusted in Christ
should be to the praise of His glory.
13 In Him you also trusted, after
you heard the word of truth, the
gospel of your salvation; in whom
also, having believed, you were
sealed with the Holy Spirit of
promise, 14 who is the guarantee
of our inheritance until the
redemption of the purchased
possession, to the praise of His
glory.
15 Therefore I also, after I heard
of your faith in the Lord Jesus and
your love for all the saints, 16 do
not cease to give thanks for you,
making mention of you in my
prayers: 17 that the God of our
Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
glory, may give to you the spirit of
wisdom and revelation in the
knowledge of Him,
18 the eyes of your understanding
being enlightened; that you may
know what is the hope of His
calling, what are the riches of the
glory of His inheritance in the
saints...
The word “Christ,” translated
from the Greek word christos,
means “anointed one.”
THE BLESSING OF BEING IN
CHRIST JESUS
1. Grace and Blessing in Jesus
Colossians 1:21-23
21 And you, who once were
alienated and enemies in your
mind by wicked works, yet now
He has reconciled 22 in the body
of His flesh through death, to
present you holy, and blameless,
and above reproach in His sight--
23 if indeed you continue in the
faith, grounded and steadfast, and
are not moved away from the
hope of the gospel which you
heard, which was preached to
every creature under heaven, of
which I, Paul, became a minister.
1 Timothy 1:12-15
12 And I thank Christ Jesus our
Lord who has enabled me,
because He counted me faithful,
putting me into the ministry, 13
although I was formerly a
blasphemer, a persecutor, and an
insolent man; but I obtained
mercy because I did it ignorantly
in unbelief.
14 And the grace of our Lord was
exceedingly abundant, with faith
and love which are in Christ Jesus.
Titus 2:11-14
11 For the grace of God that
brings salvation has appeared to
all men, 12 teaching us that,
denying ungodliness and worldly
lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly in the
present age, 13 looking for the
blessed hope and glorious
appearing of our great God and
Savior Jesus Christ,
14 who gave Himself for us, that
He might redeem us from every
lawless deed and purify for
Himself His own special people,
zealous for good works.
2. Blessed with All Spiritual
Blessings in Heavenly Places
1. God has chosen us to be
holy and blameless.
2. God has adopted us as
children.
3. God has redeemed us and
forgiven our sins.
4. God has given us wisdom
and understanding.
5. God has revealed the
mystery of His will to.
6. God has given us an
inheritance and made us the
heritage of God.
7. God has sealed us with the
Holy Spirit.
3. Chosen to be Holy in Love
The word “holy” comes from
the Greek word hagios (the
same word translated as
“saint” in verse one) and
means “to be set apart and
consecrated to God.”
2 Corinthians 7:1
"Therefore, having these
promises, beloved, let us cleanse
ourselves from all filthiness of the
flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness
in the fear of God."
1 Peter 1:13-16
13 Therefore gird up the loins of
your mind, be sober, and rest your
hope fully upon the grace that is
to be brought to you at the
revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as
obedient children, not conforming
yourselves to the former lusts, as
in your ignorance;
15 but as He who called you is
holy, you also be holy in all your
conduct, 16 because it is written,
"Be holy, for I am holy."
The word blameless means “to
be free from sin and filth; to be
above reproach, without
blemish; to be without fault or
any defilement.”
Philippians 2:13-15
13 for it is God who works in you
both to will and to do for His good
pleasure. 14 Do all things without
complaining and disputing, 15 that
you may become blameless and
harmless, children of God without
fault in the midst of a crooked and
perverse generation, among whom
you shine as lights in the world...
4. Beloved Children Adopted
According to God’s Good
Pleasure
Galatians 4:4-7
4 But when the fullness of the
time had come, God sent forth His
Son, born of a woman, born under
the law, 5 to redeem those who
were under the law, that we might
receive the adoption as sons. 6
And because you are sons, God
has sent forth the Spirit of His Son
into your hearts, crying out,
"Abba, Father!"
7 Therefore you are no longer a
slave but a son, and if a son, then
an heir of God through Christ.
The word predestination means
“to appoint before, to foreordain,
to predetermine.” The basic Greek
word for “predestination,”
proorizo, means “to mark off or to
set off the boundaries,” giving a
picture of what God is doing for
the believer.
Romans 8:29-30
29 For whom He foreknew, He also
predestined to be conformed to the
image of His Son, that He might be
the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom He predestined,
these He also called; whom He called,
these He also justified; and whom He
justified, these He also glorified.
THE REDEMPTION WE HAVE
THROUGH CHRIST JESUS
1. Redemption Through
Christ’s Blood
Romans 3:23
"for all have sinned and fall short
of the glory of God"
Romans 8:21-22
"because the creation itself also
will be delivered from the bondage
of corruption into the glorious
liberty of the children of God. 22
For we know that the whole
creation groans and labors with
birth pangs together until now."
Ephesians 2:11-13
11 Therefore remember that you,
once Gentiles in the flesh--who are
called Uncircumcision by what is
called the Circumcision made in the
flesh by hands-- 12 that at that time
you were without Christ, being
aliens from the commonwealth of
Israel and strangers from the
covenants of promise, having no
hope and without God in the world.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you
who once were far off have been
brought near by the blood of
Christ.
THE SEALING IN CHRIST WITH
THE HOLY GHOST
1. The Holy Ghost Is the
Inheritance of Promise
Luke 24:49
“Behold, I send the Promise of My
Father upon you; but tarry in the
city of Jerusalem until you are
endued with power from on high."
Ephesians 1:11-14
11 In Him also we have obtained
an inheritance, being predestined
according to the purpose of Him
who works all things according to
the counsel of His will, 12 that we
who first trusted in Christ should
be to the praise of His glory.
13 In Him you also trusted, after
you heard the word of truth, the
gospel of your salvation; in whom
also, having believed, you were
sealed with the Holy Spirit of
promise, 14 who is the guarantee
of our inheritance until the
redemption of the purchased
possession, to the praise of His
glory.
2. The Holy Ghost Is the
Earnest of Our Inheritance
Romans 8:16
“The Spirit Himself bears witness
with our spirit that we are children
of God”
2 Corinthians 1:21-22
21 Now He who establishes us
with you in Christ and has
anointed us is God, 22 who also
has sealed us and given us the
Spirit in our hearts as a
guarantee.
3. The Holy Ghost Gives Hope
of Calling and Glory
Psalm 19:8
“The statutes of the LORD are
right, rejoicing the heart; The
commandment of the LORD is
pure, enlightening the eyes”
GOD’S EXCEEDING GREAT
POWER REVEALED IN JESUS
CHRIST
1. Power to conquer all trials
and temptations of life,
because Christ conquered the
most powerful trial that faces
mankind—death.
2. Power to give a person new
life to live with victory and the
grace of God on earth.
“Therefore we are buried with
him by baptism into death:
that like as Christ was raised
up from the dead by the glory
of the Father, even so we also
should walk in newness of life”
Romans 6:4.
3. Power to raise a person
from the dead. The Holy Ghost
resurrects the believer to a
new existence of real life in
Christ, not a dead, dull
existence!

Nehemiah 8:10
