aspects of the message of the Nazi Party
in the early 1920s.

the Nazi Party by 1921.
 To identify the main features of the early
Nazi Party, image, SA
At the end of the war in 1918 Hitler had
been badly gassed and was in hospital
when the war ended.
Hitler was extremely bitter about Germany’s
Defeat and blamed it on the Communists
And Jews who he felt had stabbed Germany
In the back.
Hitler returned to Munich after 1919 and was employed by
The army to check up on extremist groups.
He went to a meeting of the German workers party led by
Anton Drexler which only had 6 Members!!!!
Anton Drexler
Hitler joins the party after a week
And becomes committee member
Number 7.
Hitler joins because Drexler wanted
To appeal to working class Germans
but also because he was a STRONG
NATIONALIST OPPOSED TO THE
TREATY OF VERSAILLES.
Hitler also knew that he had a chance
Of becoming a leader of a small party
Rather than a big party.
 1. Why
was Hitler so bitter?
 2. Who did he blame?
 3. Which party did he join?

Learning Outcome: To complete an
8 mark exam question on why the
Nazi party was so unsuccessful by
1928?
Strengths of the Nazi party
Why did it fail in the 1928
elections?
Two efficient administrators ran the Nazi party:
Philip Bouhler as secretary.
Many Germans respected Stressemann who seemed to be
regaining Germany’s status in the world so did not feel need
to vote for Hitler.
Goebbels was used to improved propaganda
e.g. Hitlers speeches were reported in 120
Newspapers.
Hitler befriended businessman who gave the Nazi party
Considerable amounts of money.
Many Germans respected President Hindenburg, the ex-head
Of the army whose popularity gave support to the Weimar
republic.
Since 1923 Inflation had
eased, employment
had increased and the public
Did not feel a need to vote NAZI.
Hitler had 400,000 SA members
By 1930 who were often used
To intimidate opponents.
Hitler organised Gauleiters to
Run the party in different regions.
Germans voted for moderate
Parties so Nazi’s only gained 12 seats
Why did the Weimar republic recover after
the Hyperinflation crises of 1923?
What did Stressemann
and the Weimar republic

What do we know?
Rentenmark: 1923
The new currency after Hyperinflation was strong and
people trusted it.
The Dawes Plan: 1924
