Translations – Moves all points of a figure the
same distance in the same direction.
Keeps its same size, shape, and orientation.
 For every point P(x,y) a translation moves it to
P‘(x+a, y+b).


Example: Translate rectangle PQRS 5 units to
the right and 4 units down
P(-3, 5)
Q(-4, 2)
R(3, 0)
S(4, 3)

Translations by repeated reflections:
Perform a reflection in one line.
 Reflect the image in a 2nd ║ line.
 Result is a translation of the original preimage.
