NIV Numbers 2:1
The LORD said to Moses and Aaron:
"The Israelites are to camp around the
Tent of Meeting some distance from it,
each man under his standard with the
banners of his family."
 Each tribe had a standard, and each
family had a standard.

3
Roman Standards:
Each Legion had 2-3
Standards.
The standards had a
globe or an “Aquila”
eagle.

Songs we sing:
Sol 2:4 He has taken me to the banquet
hall, and his banner over me is love.
 Here I raise my Ebenezer
 He’s raised up a standard, the power of
His blood
 Rally round the Banner!
 Lift high His royal banner, it must not
suffer loss.

6
A Standard brings you:
Boldness, the ability to advance!
 Makes it clear which side you are on.
 Confidence and authority.
 Denotes your leadership.
 The mark of your alignment.


Hoisting colors - "representing"
The banner Stands for something.

The LORD is my Standard


Exodus 17:15 Moses built an altar and called it
The LORD is my Banner. 16 He said, "For
hands were lifted up to the throne of the
LORD.
ISA 31:8-9 "Assyria will fall by a sword that is
not of man; a sword, not of mortals, will devour
them. They will flee before the sword and their
young men will be put to forced labor. Their
stronghold will fall because of terror; at sight
of the battle standard their commanders will
panic," declares the LORD, whose fire is in
Zion, whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
10
The Lord our Standard.
PSA 27:3 Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear; though war break
out against me, even then will I be
confident.
 How could David say this? He knew
where to look. He looked to the
Standard.

11
Jesus is the Standard!
ISA 11:10 In that day the Root of Jesse
will stand as a banner for the peoples;
the nations will rally to him, and his
place of rest will be glorious.
Prophecy points to Jesus as the Standard
for the Church!
 John 12:32 But I, when I am lifted up
from the earth, will draw all men to me."

12
Lift up your Standards!
PSA 20:5 We will shout for joy when you
are victorious and will lift up our
banners in the name of our God. May
the LORD grant all your requests. 6 Now
I know that the LORD saves his
anointed; he answers him from his holy
heaven with the saving power of his
right hand.
Example: Lifting Up the Standard
13
Why are we bold?

Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no
condemnation for those who are in
Christ Jesus..
14
VERY Bold
2 Cor 3:9 If the ministry that condemns
men is glorious, how much more glorious is
the ministry that brings righteousness! For
what was glorious has no glory now in
comparison with the surpassing glory. And
if what was fading away came with glory,
how much greater is the glory of that which
lasts! Therefore, since we have such a
hope, we are very bold
 These are the colors that don’t run.

15
You are Spiritual Standards

2 Cor 3:3 You show that you are a letter
from Christ, the result of our ministry,
written not with ink but with the Spirit of
the living God, not on tablets of stone
but on tablets of human hearts. 4 Such
confidence as this is ours through
Christ before God
16
Church Shows God’s Standard

Ephesians 3:10 His intent was that now,
through the church, the manifold wisdom
of God should be made known to the
rulers and authorities in the heavenly
realms, according to his eternal purpose
which he accomplished in Christ Jesus
our Lord. In him and through faith in him
we may approach God with freedom
and confidence.
17
Throne Boldness
Heb 4:16 (because we have Jesus) Let
us then approach the throne of grace
with confidence, so that we may
receive mercy and find grace to help us
in our time of need.
 James 1:6 when he asks, he must
believe and not doubt,
 Double minded is NOT bold.

18
Our Authority is Gods
Titus 2:15 These, then, are the things
you should teach. Encourage and
rebuke with all authority. Do not let
anyone despise you.
 We are confident because we are sent
under the Army of God. We fly his
Standard.

19
What shall we do?

Heb 10:19 Therefore, brothers, since we
have confidence to enter the Most Holy
Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new
and living way opened for us through the
curtain, that is, his body, and since we
have a great priest over the house of
God, let us draw near to God with a
sincere heart in full assurance of faith.
20
With this view in mind

We are very bold!
We
advance God’s army.
We
are CONFIDENT!
21
Approach God!

1 John 5:13-15 I write these things to
you who believe in the name of the Son
of God so that you may know that you
have eternal life. This is the
confidence we have in approaching
God: that if we ask anything according
to his will, he hears us. And if we know
that he hears us-- whatever we ask-- we
know that we have what we asked of
him.
22
We are like HIM.

1 John 4:17 In this way, love is made
complete among us so that we will have
confidence on the day of judgment,
because in this world we are like him.
 We
 Are
become like our standard!
you a teacher yet?
23
We rally with the Christians!
You claim to be a Christian, yet you are
not in church? You are not gathering
around your standard.
 They met daily (Acts 2:46)
 Acts 5:42 Every day, in the temple
courts and from house to house, they
did not stop teaching and proclaiming
the good news that Jesus is the Christ.

Ebenezer = Stone Help
1 Samuel 7:11 Israel
rushed out of Mizpah
and pursued the
Philistines, slaughtering
them along the way to a
point below Beth Car.
Then Samuel took a
stone and set it up
between Mizpah and
Shen. He named it
Ebenezer, saying, "Thus
far has the LORD helped
us.”
28
Yarby Standard
29
Yes, definitely related.
30
There are two Standards
Romans 8:5 Those who live according
to the sinful nature have their minds set
on what that nature desires; but those
who live in accordance with the Spirit
have their minds set on what the Spirit
desires.
 Notice two mind sets.

Example: second standard
31
The Standard of the world
1 John 2:16 For everything in the world-the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his
eyes and the boasting of what he has
and does-- comes not from the Father
but from the world.
 You are on one side or the other!
 The World side is the default side.

32
World Arrogance

1 Tim 1:7 They want to be teachers of
the law, but they do not know what they
are talking about or what they so
confidently affirm. 8 We know that the
law is good if one uses it properly.
33
World standard arrogance

Luke 18:9 To some who were confident
of their own righteousness and
looked down on everybody else,
Jesus told this parable: "Two men went
up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee
and the other a tax collector.
34
Sin, Desires, Arrogance

2 Pet 2:9 ..the Lord knows how to
rescue godly men from trials and to hold
the unrighteous for the day of judgment,
while continuing their punishment. This
is especially true of those who follow the
corrupt desire of the sinful nature
and despise authority. Bold and
arrogant, these men are not afraid to
slander celestial beings;
35
Sin destroys our confidence

1 John 3:21 Dear friends, if our hearts
do not condemn us, we have
confidence before God and receive
from him anything we ask, because
we obey his commands and do what
pleases him.
36
Don’t Throw it away.

Heb 10:35 So do not throw away your
confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36
You need to persevere so that when you
have done the will of God, you will receive
what he has promised. For in just a very
little while, "He who is coming will come
and will not delay. 38 But my righteous one
will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I
will not be pleased with him.“ 39 But we
are not of those who shrink back and
are destroyed, but of those who believe
and are saved.
37
There is no looking Back
Luke 9:62 Jesus replied, "No one who
puts his hand to the plow and looks back
is fit for service in the kingdom of God.“
 Lot’s Wife looked back.

38
What shall we do?
Reject the standard of the world.
 Reject the rally to evil, the rush into
dissipation.
 Don’t display the world’s standard in
your life - this is idolatry.
 HATE the sin and it’s clothing!

39
Fix Your Eyes on the Standard
1 Cor 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on
what is seen, but on what is unseen. For
what is seen is temporary, but what is
unseen is eternal.
 Look to the reward as a standard.
 2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish
arguments and every pretension that
sets itself up against the knowledge of
God.

40
Straining toward Standard
Philippians 3:13-14 Forgetting what is
behind and straining toward what is
ahead, I press on toward the goal to win
the prize for which God has called me
heavenward in Christ Jesus.
 Eyes on the Prize

41
Fix your Eyes Straight Ahead
Proverbs 4:25-27 Let your eyes look
straight ahead, fix your gaze directly
before you. Make level paths for your
feet and take only ways that are firm.
Do not swerve to the right or the left;
keep your foot from evil.
 Eyes on Jesus instead of the waves.
Eyes forward instead of on your past
life.

42
Where are your Eyes?
Where are eyes fixed? Fix your eyes on
Jesus.
 Peter lost focus of Jesus, his Standard.
 Snake on a stick look to the pole and be
healed.
 Esther looked to the scepter. Not a
weapon, a symbol.

43
You can’t be on the fence.
Traitors die! Even under current laws.
 The word is derived from the Latin
traditor which means "one who delivers”.
Judas delivered up Jesus.
 This is why friendship with the world is
hatred to God. It embraces the wrong
Standard.
