Pastor Mark Schwarzbauer PhD Family Worship Center 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” • They were instructed to wait in Jerusalem until the promise at Pentecost. • They were in “one accord”, unity. Acts 1:14, 2:1. • One accord or unity is the work of the Spirit and the pleasure of God. • God hates division- Proverbs 6:16-19 One Who Sows Discord Among Brethren. • We are called to “keep” the unity the Spirit has given- Ephesians 4:3 “being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” • You quench the Spirit when you create tension; you flow in the Spirit when you build unity. • II Cor. 13:14 “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.” • Acts 2:42 “They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship,” • Fellowship is not an interruption to the flow of the Spirit. Fellowship is the appropriate biblical reaction to the flow of the Spirit. • From the Greek word “Koinonia” (used 20 times in the N.T.). • Koinós means “common”… “in the sense of what concerns all, e.g., societies, monies, resolves, and in the sense of what is of little value.” (Kittle). • Koinonia fellowship is NOT some great spiritual moment but hanging out together doing what some people would think is “of little value.” • What appears to be of “little value” is really very valuable! • The discipleship of learning to have relaxing fun interactions without swearing or drinking alcohol. • Connecting with people and bonding as we realize we have so much in “common.” • Comfortably talking about Jesus and learning to communicate. • Small groups, before service coffee and tailgating. • Romans 12 1-2 “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walkingaround life—and place it before God as an offering.” (MSG). Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, Εἴ τις οὖν παράκλησις ἐν Χριστῷ if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. • Paraklete is the Holy Spirit. • John 14:16, 26, 15:26, 16:7 the Holy Spirit is called the Paraklete. • First three phrases are all about the Holy Spirit as are also “affection and mercy” which are fruits of the Holy Spirit.
