Introduction
This class aims to help senior level MIS students master advanced database
concepts. Specifically, students completing this course should be comfortable
with a wide variety of concepts including logical and physical database design,
ANSI SQL, TSQL, stored procedures, ETL, report writing, transaction
management, data cleansing, data warehouses and BI cubes. Students will be
master these concepts by reading the assigned text and completing in class and
out of class assignments.

Prerequisites
Suggested prerequisites for this course include Management Information
Systems 3330.
Student Preparation
You should expect to spend at a minimum two hours outside of class for every
class hour. There will, however, be a great deal of variation in this amount
because of differences in learning and programming skills. It is recommended
that each chapter be read twice: the first time to obtain an overview and the
second time to make notes concerning that chapter.
Late Work
Late work is not accepted for any reason at all. Get your work in on time. If
you "have" to have a particular grade in this class, "earn" it. Don't tell me you
need an "A" the last week of class when you have earned a low "C" all
semester. It is your responsibility to earn whatever grade you need.

Testing Policy
A final will be given at the end of this Semester, and the times are listed at the
end of this syllabus. It will emphasize material taken from the text, assignments,
and the lecture notes. In other words, anything from the books, the lecture notes,
or assignments is fair game for the final exam. Students who have questions
concerning their exams may request that a test be regraded. Be aware,
however, that the entire test will be regraded and that a lower or higher score
could result. This is designed to discourage students from "haggling" over
points.
The format of the final exam will be explained during class before the exam. It is,
however, objective in its format.
Cheating Policy
There is no room whatsoever for cheating in this class. Anyone caught cheating
in any way will at best receive a failing grade for the course and at worst will be
kicked out of the university. We have no tolerance for cheating. What is
cheating? You are allowed to help each other on assignments but that does not
mean doing the assignments for each other.
