The Excretory System • This is the system that collects wastes produced by cells and removes wastes from the body. • Kidneys are the main excretory organs—BLOOD SCRUBBERS 1. filter waste from blood and 2. regulates the amount of water in the body Wastes: Urea-produced by the break down of proteins in body cells Excess water Toxins or medicines broken down by the liver Urine-Waste that is left in the bladder Here’s how it goes… • After blood is filtered by the kidneys, the waste that is left (urine) • is passed through colleting tubes into larger tubes, URETERS, • which takes waste from the kidneys • to the URINARY BLADDER. • When the bladder fills, urine is passed out of the body through the URETHRA.
