Physics Physics, Matter and Energy Thursday, August 28 Physics is about finding the simplest and least complicated explanation for things. By the end of the day… • I will be able to define energy. • I will be able to compare and contrast matter vs. mass. • I will be able to classify an item as matter or energy. • I will be able to explain if light is matter or energy. Matter vs Energy Activity Two cards will be given to each table. You will then have two minutes to decide if your card is matter, energy, both or neither. You will then be asked to explain your reason. What is Physics, Matter and Energy? • With your table you are going to take turns reading paragraphs from section 1.1 in the CPO science text book. • As you read fill in the blanks from the worksheet. Revisit Matter vs Energy Activity • You have 1 min to go and move any card that you believe is in the wrong place. • You will have to explain why you are moving that card. Write the complete word list in categories On the back of the worksheet. How am I doing on the daily goals… • I will be able to define energy. • I will be able to compare and contrast matter vs. mass. • I will be able to classify an item as matter or energy. • I will be able to explain if light is matter or energy. On the page behind the worksheet… • Write an answer to each question IN YOUR OWN WORDS!!! • After you have written an answer trade notebooks and read theirs. • Discuss anything you do not believe to be correct. • Discuss anything you really like in theirs. • Make any needed changes or additions. Define matter Define energy Explain what light is. Draw these two pictures and explain what they mean in your own words. What is needed to create change? Compare and contrast mass and matter. What property does matter have that energy does not? What is studied in physics?
