HOW DID DEATH COME ABOUT?
GENESIS 2:15-17

The LORD God took the man and put him in the
garden of Eden to tend and keep it.

The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of
every tree of the garden you may freely eat;

“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you
shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely
die."
WHAT DID SATAN TELL EVE?
GENESIS 3:2-4

The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the
fruit of the trees of the garden;

“But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of
the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall
you touch it, lest you die.'"

Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not
surely die.
WHAT HAPPENED TO ADAM?
GENESIS 3:17-19

Then God said to Adam, "Because you have
heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the
tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not
eat of it': "Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you
shall eat of it all the days of your life.

Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for
you, and you shall eat the herb of the field.

In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till

dust you are and to dust you shall return.“
WHAT HAPPENED TO ADAM?

become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest
he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat,

Therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of
Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.

the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which
turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
HOW LONG DID ADAM LIVE?

WHAT HAPPENS TO MAN AND BEAST?
ECCLESIASTES 3:19-20

What happens to the sons of men also happens to
animals. One thing befalls them: as one dies, so dies the
other. Surely, they all have one breath. Man has no
advantage over animals, for all is vanity.

All go to one place: all are from the dust and all return
to dust.

Remember your Creator before the silver cord is
loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher
shattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the well.

spirit will return to God who gave it.
HOW DID DEATH SPREAD TO ALL MEN?
ROMANS 5:10-14

If when we were enemies we were reconciled to God
through the death of His Son, much more, having been
reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

world and death through sin, thus death spread to all men,

HOW IS DEATH DEFINED?

age an old man full of years and was gathered to his people.

shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and
everlasting contempt.

OUR FRIEND LAZARUS SLEEPS
JOHN 11:11-14

….Jesus said to them, "Our friend Lazarus sleeps,
BUT I go that I may wake him up."

They said, "Lord, if he sleeps he will get well."

However, Jesus spoke of his death, BUT they
thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.

Then Jesus said to them plainly, "Lazarus is dead.”
HOW IS DEATH DEFINED?
“HE FELL ASLEEP”
ACTS 7:59-60

They stoned Stephen as he was calling on God
saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

"Lord, do not charge them with this sin." And when he had

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DEATH?
ROMANS 6:23

NO CONDEMNATION IN CHRIST JESUS
ROMANS 8:1-2

There is therefore now no condemnation to those
who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the
flesh, but according to the Spirit.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has
made me free from the law of sin and death.

IS THERE A RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD?
1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-4

Brethren, I declare to you the gospel, which I
preached to you, which also you have received and
wherein you stand;

By which also you are saved. If you keep in memory
what I preached to you unless you have believed in vain.

I delivered to you first of all that which I received
how that Christ died for our sins according to the
scriptures.

IF THERE IS NO RESURRECTION?
1 CORINTHIANS 15:12-18

If Christ is preached that He has been raised from
the dead, how do some among you say that there is no
resurrection of the dead?

BUT if there is no resurrection of the dead, THEN
Christ is not risen.

AND if Christ is not risen, THEN our preaching is
empty and your faith is also empty.

Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God,
because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ,
whom He did not raise up-- if in fact the dead do not rise.

FOR if the dead do not rise, THEN Christ is not risen.

AND if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are
still in your sins!

Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ
have perished.
HOW DID DEATH COME TO ALL?
1 CORINTHIANS 15:19-26

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of
all men the most pitiable.

BUT now Christ is risen from the dead and has
become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

For since by man came death, by Man also came the
resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be

WHAT IS THE LAST ENEMY TO BE DESTROYED?
1 CORINTHIANS 15:19-26

His feet.

HOW DID JESUS ABOLISHED DEATH?
2 TIMOTHY 1:8-10

Do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor
of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for
the gospel according to the power of God,

Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling,
not according to our works, but according to His own
purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus

BUT has now been revealed by the appearing of Our
Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought
life and immortality to light through the gospel.

WHO DID JESUS DESTROY?
HEBREWS 2:14-15

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of
flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same,
that through death He might destroy him who had the
power of death, that is, the devil,

HOW IS DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY?
1 CORINTHIANS 15:54-57

When this corruptible has put on incorruption, and
this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to
pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in
victory."

"O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is
your victory?"

The sting of death is sin AND the strength of sin is
the law.

BUT thanks be to God, who gives us the victory

HOW SHALL THE DEAD BE RAISED?
1 CORINTHIANS 15:51-53

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep,
BUT we shall all be changed52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last
trumpet. For the trumpet will sound AND the dead will be
raised incorruptible and we shall be changed.

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, AND
this mortal must put on immortality. (NKJ)
WHO RAISED US UP?

EPHESIANS 2:1-6
He made you alive, who were dead in trespasses and
sins.
You once walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the
spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.
BUT God, who is rich in mercy, BECAUSE of His great
love with which He loved us,
EVEN WHEN we were dead in trespasses, made us
alive together with Christ (by grace you have been
saved),
AND raised us up together, and made us sit together in
the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

WHAT ABOUT THOSE WHO SLEEP IN JESUS?
1 THESSALONIANS 4:13-14

I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren,
concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow
as others who have no hope.

If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so
God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. (NKJ)
WHO SHALL RISE FIRST?
1 THESSALONIANS 4:16-18

The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a
shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet
of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught
up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the
air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

Therefore comfort one another with these words.

WHAT APPOINTED TO MEN AFTER DEATH?
HEBREWS 9:27-28

As it is appointed for men to die once, BUT after this
the judgment,

WHO WILL BE GIVEN A CROWN OF LIFE?

you the crown of life.

WHO ARE THEY WHO DIE IN THE LORD?
REVELATION 14:13

Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me,
"Write: 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now
on.'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their
labors, and their works follow them.“ (NKJ)
HOW WERE THE DEAD JUDGED?
REVELATION 20:12-13

I saw the dead, small and great, standing before
God, and books were opened. Another book was opened,
which is the Book of Life. The dead were judged according
to their works, by the things which were written in the
books.

The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death
and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And
they were judged, each one according to his works. (NKJ)
WHAT IS THE SECOND DEATH?
REVELATION 20:14-15

THEN Death and Hades were cast into the lake of
fire. This is the second death.

AND anyone not found written in the Book of Life

WHO SHALL PASS FROM DEATH INTO LIFE?
JOHN 5:21-24

“As the Father raises the dead and gives life to
them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.

“The Father judges no one, BUT has committed all
judgment to the Son,

“That all should honor the Son just as they honor
the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor
the Father who sent Him.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word
AND believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, AND
shall not come into judgment, BUT has passed from death
into life.
