Stream Development
SWBAT describe some of the physical
features of stream development; explain the
process of rejuvenation in stream
development
Moving Water Carves a Path

Stream channel


A pathway carved by moving water in sediments or
rocks
Steam banks

The confines that hold the stram channel in place
Formation of Stream Valleys

How are stream valleys formed?


Meander


a stream valley is formed when water erodes a path,
carving a v shaped channel with steep.
A bend or curve in a stream channel caused by
moving water.
How do oxbow lakes form?

Oxbow lakes are formed when a meander is cut off
from a stream from the deposition of materials.
Deposition of Sediments

Alluvial fan


Delta


A fan shaped sediment deposit, left when a stream’s
gradient suddenly decreases
A triangular deposit that forms where a stream
enters a large body of water
Rejuvenation

A stream actively resumes the process of
downcutting toward its base level
