 Absolute Value = Distance from zero
 Example:
 Pos + Pos = Pos
Example: 2 + 3 = 5
 Neg + Neg = Neg
Example: -2 + -3 = -5

2. Take the sign of the number with
the greatest absolute value
 Example: -2 + 3 = 1

 Subtracting a positive number is the same as adding a
negative Example: 5 – 7 = 5 + -7
 Subtracting a negative number is the same as adding a
positive
Example: 7 - -5 = 7 + 5
