By means that are sometimes humiliating,

Early Comedies (until about 1595 )-- reflect in
their gaiety and exuberant (丰富的) language the
lively and self-confident tone of the English nation
after 1588 。--The Comedy of Errors
Middle Comedies --A Midsummer Night’s Dream
and The Merchant of Venice from the mid-1590s
provide evidence of Shakespeare’s growing
mastery of the comic form and his willingness to
explore and test its dramatic possibilities.
HIS COMEDIES(cont.)

Mature Comedies --The romantic plays As
You Like It, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and
Twelfth Night are often characterized as
joyous comedies because of their generally
happy mood and sympathetic characters.
Written around 1599 and 1600, they
represent Shakespeare’s triumph in the field
of high comedy.
