Greek Mythology What meanings did myths about gods, goddesses, and heroes have for the ancient Greeks? What meanings do the Greek myths have for us today? Introduction You will be using the following activities to learn about Greek Mythology. Each pit stop on this odyssey will lead you to an understanding of mythology and how it fits into our lives today. Read the information and answer the questions on the handouts provided. After completing a group of activities you will reach a challenge where you will have to perform a quest. If there are words in your reading that you don't know look them up in the dictionary app on your iPad. Section 1--Greek Mythology: What's It All About? Pit Stop #1 : Introduction to Mythology At this pit stop you need to open the documents under WebQuest Instructions called “What is a Myth Story” and “What is a Myth WS”. Open both in Adobe. You will need to use the story to answer the questions on the Worksheet (WS). When you have answered all the questions on the worksheet, get it checked by Mrs. Kobza. If you get all of the answers right, you may move on to Pit Stop #2. Pit Stop#2: Overview of Greek Gods and Goddesses At this pit stop you will meet some of the fabulous folk that live on Mt. Olympus. First of all, you need to go to the Mythology Page of Mrs. Kobza’s website and open the link “Gods & Goddesses” under WebQuest Pit Stop #2. After reading this information, ask Mrs. Kobza for a crossword puzzle. Use the information from this site to help you. When you are finished, put the crossword puzzle in your class’s bin. Pit Stop #3: Greek vs. Roman Gods At this pit stop, you will continue to research some of the immortals of Greek mythology. Go to this site http://www.mythweb.com/gods/index.html and read about three of the immortals. Open a Pages document and put the correct heading in the top right hand corner (name, Mrs. Kobza, date). Title this document Your Last Name.Greek vs. Roman Gods. Write a short paragraph about each of the three you selected telling their Greek and Roman names, his or her relationship to other gods or goddesses, what powers he or she had, and at least one other interesting piece of information about him or her. Editor’s Checklist: ü ü ü ü ü ü Did you indent each paragraph? Do you have a topic sentence? Did you capitalize the first word in each sentence? Did you end each sentence with a punctuation mark?
