Justified in the Spirit
Listen it's true we have a confident expectation of seeing the fruit of God's life manifest in
us as we rest in Jesus. There's nothing wrong with seeing good things happen in our
lives. What causes us harm is when we define ourselves & our lives by the good things
we can see happen for us..
1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in
the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in
the world, received up into glory.
Jesus was manifest in the flesh but he was not justified through the flesh. He was justified
in the Spirit.
In the same way we are not justified through the flesh we are justified in the Spirit.
Walking in the Spirit is not I see what the fruit of the
Spirit is and then I go and use my ability to bring about the fruit of the spirit in my life.
Walking in the Spirit means the life we now live in the flesh we live with the faith that was
made flesh in Jesus as our sight. It means the life we live now in the flesh we live with the
faith that was made flesh in Jesus as the lamp unto our feet and the light unto our way
concerning what it is we believe.
Gal 2:15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of
Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith
of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be
justified.
Gal 2:17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found
sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
Gal 2:18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
Gal 2:19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and
the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and
gave himself for me.
Explain what it means to be justified
Justified means to declare, pronounce that a person is as they ought to be.
But, it also speaks of the effect this declaration has on the hearts & souls of people. It
talks about a persons soul being restored. It talks about a person's heart being
strengthened by eternal life. It talks about their souls being restored and their hearts being
strengthened by the word that the life they possess is born of an incorruptible seed.
There are different aspects of justification. But, the justified Paul is talking about here is
when our hearts are stung by the message of eternal life. He is talking about when our
hearts receive strength from the word of eternal life that was made flesh in the resurrection
of Jesus.
He is talking about when our hearts declare to us that we are as we ought to be because
they have been persuaded we are the possessors of life. And Paul says this happens as
we walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh.
So one of the aspects of justification talks about a declaration in our hearts. It speaks of
our own hearts declaring to us that we are as we ought to be. And this has a powerful
impact in our lives. It strengthens our hearts with eternal life. It restores our souls. It
brings peace to our souls.
The way being justified works is that God comes to restore our souls & strengthen our
hearts by reconciling us back to eternal life. He comes to persuade our hearts that we are
as we ought to be by making us partakers of an incorruptible life in Christ. And from this
foundation the fruit of eternal life can born in us.
We have kind of put the cart before the horse. We have looked to the good fruit we can
get to manifest in our lives to bring peace to our souls and strengthen our hearts.
In my own life I had this idea that by me being able to get life to manifest. By me getting a
blessed life to come forth. This would declare to my heart that I am as I ought to be and it
would bring peace to my soul. It would strengthen my heart. It would justify my heart.
But this idea left me walking after the flesh and defining the life I possessed by the life I had
in the world.
We have looked at the end result of a heart strengthened by life as the method by which
our hearts can be strengthened with life. And in doing this we have continued to walk in a
system that can only subvert our souls.
Explain what it means to be justified by the works of the law:
The idea of being justified by the works of the law is that I will perform enough of these
works that it will produce a blessed life. And when I can see that I have this blessed life it
will strengthen me in my heart. It will bring peace to my soul.
It is that I can get the blessing of God to manifest in my life by performing the works of the
law. And when I can see the blessed life manifest it will be unto my justification.
It is that by performing the works of the law I will be declared to be as I ought to be by the
good that will now manifest in my life.
Justified by the works of the law is that my heart will be strengthened by the good I can see
manifest in my life. And the manner in which I will get the good to manifest in my life is by
performing the works of the law.
Justified by the works of the law is a system that says if I do these things it is the path to a
blessed life for me. And in beholding the good life I have it will cause my heart to declare
that I am as I ought to be; it will strengthen my heart and bring peace to my soul.
When Paul speaks of being justified by the works of the law. He is speaking of a system
that existed long before the law of Moses was given that the law of Moses just revealed for
what it was. He is speaking of the system of trying to be justified by the strength of the
flesh.
Being justified by the strength of the flesh is that I use my ability to bring forth life in order
that when I can get life to manifest it will tell me I am as I ought to be. And this will restore
my soul; it will strengthen my heart.
It speaks of me looking around at the life the world says I possess and trying to get that life
to look so good that it can persuade my heart that I am the possessor of life and bring
peace to my soul.
Being justified by the works of the law can just as easily be a system that says if I can get
the fruit of the Spirit to manifest; if I can get financial prosperity to manifest; if I can get
physical healing to manifest; if I can get the good things in this world to manifest; if I can
see people treat me properly; if I can make people happy; if I can never be pressed in upon
or never feel weakness again. If I can bring forth the Kingdom. If I can manifest myself
as the Son or Daughter of God.
Then I can gather these things together and bring them to my heart and they can persuade
my heart that I am the possessor of life; that I am as I ought to be and bring peace to my
soul.
We have been taught to look to the good we can see manifest to persuade our hearts that
we are the possessors of life. Instead of being taught to look to Christ. We say if we can
see these things manifest it will bring peace to my soul; it will strengthen my heart; it will
cause my heart to declare that I am as I ought to be; it will be the evidence of my
Sonship/Daughterhood.
If we walk in this system it will continuously subvert our souls because it will always speak
a word to our hearts that we are lacking in some good thing that is needed for life. It will
all the time speak a word to our hearts that tells us we are not as we ought to be.
The life that can be had in the world is corruptible. If we are looking to something that is
corruptible to be persuaded we are the possessors of life. It can only ever minister death
to our hearts. It can only ever minister a word to our hearts that tells us we are separated
from life; that we are lacking something we need in order to have a good life.
Explain the system of faith works differently & how it works.
The system of faith works differently. The system of faith comes to bring forth a
declaration in your heart that says you are the possessor of all things that pertain to life and
godliness. The system of faith comes to bring forth a cry in your hearts that says you lack
no good thing that is needed for life. It comes to bring forth a cry in your heart that says
nothing can be a testimony that you are separated from God's love for you and His life.
The system of faith comes to bring forth a cry in your heart that says you are the possessor
of an incorruptible life. It comes to bring forth a cry in your heart that says the life you
possess in this mortal body is not subject to the death and decay in the world. It comes to
bring forth a cry in your hearts that says the life you possess in this mortal body has
conquered the grave.
There was a time in Paul's life where He lived under a system that ministered death to him.
He lived under a system that was always telling him all the areas he lacked the good that is
needed to be the possessor of life. He lived under a system that was always ministering
to him all the areas he was separated from life. It was always telling him all the ways he
was lacking in the things that pertained to life and godliness. It was all the time telling him
he was coming up short in some good thing he needed to be as he ought to be and to have
a blessed life.
This system subverted his soul by always telling him he was separated from life. And then
it gave him a list of things he could bring forth in order to gain life; in order to have a
blessed life. It gave him a list of things he needed to bring forth so his soul could be
restored and his heart could be strengthened.
Paul looked to the good fruit he could get to manifest as the foundation from where he
could be persuaded that he was as he ought to be. He looked to the good fruit he could
get to manifest as the foundation from where his heart would declare to him that he was as
he ought to be. This persuasion doesn't come from God and it causes a person to walk
after the flesh. We do not find rest in the good fruit we can see manifested in our lives.
We find rest in Jesus.
Example of file in world about our life.
Talk about file using FBI....
When the FBI is watching someone they have a file on them. They profile their life and
put together a file about their life.
We can say it like this. The system Paul used to live under presented him with a file about
his life similar to the file the FBI might have on someone.
And this file told him all the different ways he lacked. It told him all the different ways he
came behind in the good that was needed to have a blessed life. The file this system
presented to him about his life ministered death to him by always telling him all the ways
and all the areas he was separated from life.
And then it gave him a list of things to do to improve his file, or to build up his resume so to
speak.
This same system Paul use to live under through the law of Moses is still in the world
today.
The system of being justified through the works of the law is still in the world today. It is
the system of being justified through the strength of the flesh. And it wants to present you
with a file about your life to tell you all the ways you are separated from life.
It wants to present you with a file about your life and the quality of life you possess. It
wants to take the sum total of all the good and the bad that can happen to you. It wants to
take the sum total of the things you do; the things you say; the things people think about
you; say about you. And then present it to you as the file about the life you possess.
It wants to present you with a file about your life that will tell you all the different ways you
lack. It wants to tell you all the areas that you come behind in the good that is needed to
have a blessed life. The system in the world wants to present you with a file about your
life that ministers death to you by telling you all the ways and all the areas you are
separated from life.
So your life will be born from the place of always trying to build your resume. So your life
will be born from always trying to build enough equity in the world that it can bring peace to
your soul.
It wants your heart to function from the place as if you are applying for Sonship &
Daughterhood, and the qualification is the good life you can get to manifest in the earth.
So your life will be born from the place of trying to build a good enough resume. Hoping
you can gather enough good fruit to present to your heart that your heart can be persuaded
you have life.
It's almost like our lives in the gospel has consisted of us applying to our hearts for Sonship
& Daughterhood. And so we have been busy on a fruit gathering expedition. Trying to
build our resume by looking to the good fruit we can get to manifest in this life.
But that is the way of Cain....
Cain was busy gathering fruit. With the hope that he could gather enough fruit that it could
exalt him to Sonship. He thought the good fruit he could produce would be evidence that
he was as he ought to be
So there was a time in Paul's life where he had gone in the way of Cain. But, then
something happened to Paul. His life was interrupted.
You know like the movie Girl Interrupted with Winona Ryder where her life was going one
way and then the course of her life was forever altered.
Paul's life was going in the way of Cain & then God came along and revealed His Son in
Paul and forever altered the course of Paul's life. He came and interrupted the course
Paul's life was on.
Gal 1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called
me by his grace,
Gal 1:16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately
I conferred not with flesh and blood:
God came and revealed something that was true about Paul and the thing he used to
reveal what was true about Paul was Jesus.
He came and called Paul His Son. He came and promised Paul the life he was so busy
trying to attain to as a free gift. He told Paul the peace he so desperately desired for his
soul was not found in the flesh. It was not found in the strength of the flesh to do; to get;
to have. He told Paul the life he so desperately desired was not found in this world. But,
it was found in what God had done in Christ to conquer his death and reconcile him to that
eternal life that has been from the beginning.
God came and revealed to Paul that Jesus' death was his death. His resurrection and
ascension was his resurrection and ascension. Only believe.
Gal 2:19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and
the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and
gave himself for me.
explain what Paul said in gal 2:20 is result of God having revealed His Son in Paul.....
These verses are a continuation of what Paul said in chapter 1 when He said it pleased
God to reveal His Son in me.
We can say it like this when it pleased God to reveal His Son in Paul he saw he was
crucified with Christ. When it pleased God to reveal His Son in Paul he saw he was dead
to death and that God reconciled him back to that eternal life that has been from the
beginning.
When it pleased God to reveal to Paul that he was crucified with Christ to the file in the
world about his life. When it pleased God to reveal he was crucified with Christ to the
word in the world about the life he possesses. When it pleased God to reveal that he died
away the file in the world about Paul's life and left it in the grave never to be resurrected
again. When it pleased God to reveal the resume He built about Paul's life in the
resurrection and ascension of Jesus.
Paul says when it pleased God to reveal His Son in me I could see I was crucified with
Christ. I could see I was dead to the file in the world about my life. I could see God has
always had a file about my life. I could see that God came and built a resume about my
life on my behalf.
And because I am still alive. This life I now live in the flesh I no longer live by the file in the
world about my life.
I no longer live trying to build my resume. I no longer live looking to the good life I can get
to manifest in this world to be justified. I no longer live trying to bring peace to my soul
through the good I can bring forth in this world. I no longer live trying to be strengthened
in my heart by the good fruit I can produce. But, the life I live now in the flesh I live by the
faith of the Son of God.
Paul says I am no longer building a resume with the hope there can be enough good things
there that my heart can be persuaded I am the possessor of life. I am no longer gathering
fruit in the earth hoping that my fruit bundle can declare to my heart that I am as I ought to
be. I am no longer trying to bring peace to my soul by the life I can attain to in this world.
But, I see that God has come and built a resume about my life in Christ. I see that God
has come to persuade my heart that I am the possessor of life by revealing that I am dead
to death and alive to an incorruptible life in Christ. I see that God has come and
reconciled me back to the only life that could ever bring peace to my soul in the
resurrection and ascension of Christ. I see that God has come to restore my soul and
strengthen my heart with life through the word of what He has done in Christ.
And so I live my life looking to what God has said and done in Christ to find peace for my
soul and to be strengthened in my heart.
The life I live now in the flesh I live by the file God presented to me about my life in Christ.
The life I live now in the flesh I live by the resume God built about my life in Christ.
The live I live now in the flesh I live by faith and not by sight.
The life I live now in the flesh I live with faith as my sight. The life I live now in the flesh I
live seeing my life through the file God presented to me in Christ. The life I live now in the
flesh I live seeing my life through the resume God built about the life I possess in Christ.
Living by faith and not by sight means to live with faith as your sight. It is not really talking
about not living by what you see. It is talking about the faith that was made flesh in Jesus
becoming the eyes by which you see your life instead of living with the carnal mind as your
sight.
Paul says because I was crucified with Christ to the file in the world about my life.
The life I live now in the flesh I live looking to Christ seated at the right hand of God as the
word about the life I possess. I live with the life Christ possesses at the right hand of God
as my sight concerning my life. I live with the life Christ possesses at the right hand of
God as my sight concerning whether I am separated from life or not. I live with the life
Christ possesses as the eyes by which I judge the life I possess. I live with the life Christ
possesses as the eyes by which I determine whether I have all things that pertain to life
and godliness or not.
And this brings peace to my soul. This strengthens my heart with life.
