Hematological parameters of freshwater fish Piaractus mesopotamicus (Holmberg, 1887) kept in an intensive polyculture system
were determined. The correlations among these parameters as well as those between the parameters and the biometric data (total
weight and standard length) were also analyzed. Erythrocytes count was 1.708±0.42 x 10(6)/µl, hemoglobin 6.6±2.0 g% of blood
and hematocrit 32.5±4.6%, mean corpuscular volume (MCV) 209.8±69.5%, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) 40.2±5.6 pg
and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) 21.4±8.4%. The percentage of defense blood cells including leucocytes

Digestible lysine levels in diets for pigs from 24 to 50 kg under sanitary segregation

This study evaluated the relationship between digestible lysine and metabolizable energy for barrow and gilts from 24 to 50 kg.
Performance, digestibility and blood profile were studied. The experimental design was of randomized blocks, with five
treatments, eight replicates and two animals per experimental unit in the performance assay and four replicates and one animal per
experimental unit in the digestibility assay. The blood profile was chosen at 20 random animals of each sex, with four replicates
per treatment and the animal as experimental unit. The treatments were 0.80, 0.90, 1.00, 1.10 and 1.20% digestible lysine. There

Effect of the infestation by Lernaea cyprinacea Linnaeus, 1758 (Copepoda, Lernaeidae) on the
leucocytes of Schizodon intermedius Garavello & Britski, 1990 (Osteichthyes, Anostomidae)

Differential white blood cell counts from Schizodon intermedius infested by Lernaea cyprinacea were carried out and compared
using the Wilcoxon matched pairs test. The observations were performed in fish infested by 16-77 adult Lernaea, fish with
parasitic lesions but without attached crustaceans, and non parasitized fish (control group). The specimens of Schizodon
intermedius were obtained from the University of Londrina fish farming facilities. The following leucocytes were observed:
lymphocytes, neutrophils, monocytes, basophils, eosinophils and immature leucocytes. Intense lymphocytopenia and neutrophilia

(Piaractus mesopotamicus Holmberg x Colossoma macropomum Cuvier) (Osteichthyes, Characidae)

Fifty six specimens of the hybrid "tambacu" (Piaractus mesopotamicus Holmberg, 1887 male x Colossoma macropomum Cuvier,
1818 female) were collected from fishfarm of Guariba, São Paulo, to evaluate their haematology. Fishes presented 400.0 to
3,100.0 g total weight and 20.0 to 52.0 cm total length. Haemoglobin, haematocrit, mean corpuscular haemoglobin content
(MCHC) and percentage of defense blood cells including leucocytes and thrombocytes, were studied. Statistical analysis showed
positive correlation (P<0.01) between haematocrit, MCHC and haemoglobin rate. Nevertheless, thrombocytes and lymphocytes
showed negative correlation (P<0.01).

Neste estudo, foram avaliadas as características hematológicas e a morfometria de Auchenipterus nuchalis, Psectrogaster
amazônica e Squaliforma emarginata, capturados no rio Tocantins. As amostragens foram realizadas no rio Tocantins, onde o
sangue foi coletado por punção caudal dos animais, determinando-se hemograma completo e morfometria dos eritrócitos.
Auchenipterus nuchalis (n = 15) apresentou maior número de eritrócitos, hemoglobina e hematócrito, seguido de P. amazônica (n
= 26) e S. emarginata (n = 26). O tamanho dos eritrócitos foi maior para S. emarginata, mostrando que quanto maior o tamanho
