Segment Design Tool
The Segment Design Tool (SDT) is specifically designed to verify physical limitations of a FOUNDATION™ fieldbus
Segment, operating under an H1 Card on an Emerson Process Management DeltaV™ Controller.
Note. This tool is not supported on Servers.

Issue Resolved:
1. Revisions were not shown correctly for Honeywell ST700 Pressure Transmitter for different segment types.
Known Errata / Limitations:
1. Certification of the Field Devices with respect to the segment type is not correct.
Example:
For an Entity Segment created from a Blank Template, the certification for field devices is shown as NON-IS,
even if ENTITY certification is available for the device.
2. Support for multiple certifications for Power Conditioners.
Example:
For MTL-Relcom power conditioners, F101-P* and F102-P* there are two certifications NON-IS and Entity.

Main objective of this release is to implement the heuristic evaluation comments given by the Human Centered
Design Team who had conducted the heuristic usability evaluation review for Segment Design Tool.
1) Property Window Panel Requirement.
A common property window panel shows the properties for components like H1 Cards, Connectors,
Segments, Power Conditioners, Cables, Cable Types and Devices.
2) Registration page modified.
Fax number label and text box removed from the registration web page.
3) “Go to” feature is added above the components tree view (since they are related) and removed from the
toolbar.
4) Excel Icon changed on toolbar.
5) No double clicking option available to display properties for components. Single click on the component
present on the segment editor to view its property on the property window panel (except for Cable Type
properties which open on a single click on the cables in the components tree view).
6) Obsolete mark shown on the description for components which are obsolete.

Bug fixes:
1. When we create a large segment on the segment design area and generate HTML report for it, the snapshot
shown in the HTML report does not capture the whole segment.
2. Copy Segment feature copies the tags of the components which is incorrect. There cannot be two
components with same tag.
3. For 8800 Vortex Flow Meter, model number shown is “8800” which needs to be modified as “8800D”.

Main objective of this release is :
1) To decouple the library components from the main setup (main application) of SDT to ease the process of
library update in the future without impacting the main application.
2) To update the library for DeltaV approved passive components as per Device install Kits.

Segment Design Tool Component Library is decoupled from Segment Design Tool Main setup. By this the
release management of the library components will be more efficient and also will have the advantage
of any change in the library components list will not impact the main SDT application.




Online Help
The Help System has been rebuilt using HTML Help, this can be accessed from the Help -> Online Help menu.

Device Addressing
Devices can now be addressed, the system will automatically assign addresses using the DeltaV addressing scheme.
Auto addressing can also be user defined

Device Description Revision
Devices now have a Device Description Revision, this feature has been added to aid the fhx export that will be
added in a future release.

Backup LAS
Devices that support Backup LAS can be configured to use this option. This forces the address to 20 to comply with
DeltaV. This feature has been added to aid the fhx export that will be added to a future release.

Polyethylene and PVC Cables
The number of cable types has been doubled to include PVC Cables, these have double the capacitance of
equivalent Polyethylene cables.

Registration Process
The Registration Screen has been prevented from covering other applications. This should make it much easier to

Each Segment is built in the TreeView with a Connection Based Hierarchy, rooted with the H1 Card. The Tree will

Known Errata / Limitations
1.
Termination and sub segments
The Segment Design Tool does not take into account sub-segment classification nor does it take into account
validation and positioning of the terminators on such Segments.
2.
Non-Physical Limitation Checks
The Segment Design Tool does not perform the following checks, and these should be verified manually
- Total Function Block Limit Per H1 Card
- Total VCR Limit Per H1 Card
- Total VCR Limit Per Fieldbus Device
- Communication Overloading
