GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINA 1983 SESSION RATIFIED BILL RESOLUTION 15 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 410 A JOINT RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING CONGRESS TO ASSURE THAT FEDERAL LANDS CURRENTLY DESIGNATED AS UNITED STATES FOREST AND PARK LANDS IN NORTH CAROLINA REMAIN IN PUBLIC OWNERSHIP. Whereas, land is the primary irreplaceable natural and economic resource in North Carolina; and Whereas, North Carolina's economy and way of life are linked to the effective public management and protection of United States forest and park lands in North Carolina; and Whereas, the new policies of the Department of the Interior provide for the sale of public lands as a means of generating government revenue in direct opposition to previous policies of maintaining effective public management; Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring: Section 1. The North Carolina General Assembly urges the United States Congress to assure that federal lands currently designated as United States forest and park lands in North Carolina remain in public ownership and continue to be managed for present and future generations, provided the existing policy of exchanging lands with private owners to benefit forest and park lands shall be continued. Sec. 2. The Secretary of State shall transmit copies of this resolution to all members of Congress, to the President of the United States, to the Secretary of Agriculture, and to the Secretary of the Interior. Sec. 3. This resolution is effective upon ratification. In the General Assembly read three times and ratified, this the 22nd day of April, 1983.
