Atoms- smallest unit of a substance.
Structure of an Atom
1. Nucleus- center of an atom
Proton- positive charge
Neutron- no charge, neutral
2. Electron- outside nucleus, negative
charge
Structure of an Atom
Element- substance that can’t be broken down into
smaller substances.
Periodic Table- chart showing all of the elements
grouped by similar characteristics.
(About 118 elements)
1. Symbol- 1 or 2 letter abbreviation.
2. Atomic #- # of protons and electrons.
(# of neutrons can change- Isotope)
3. Atomic Mass- weight of the nucleus of an atom.
