PT. PSN Introduces Satellite Technology and Business Submit by prasetyaPTIIKon October 04, 2013| Comment(s) : 0| View : 3740 Heru Dwikartono from PT. PSN introducing satellite business and technology in PTIIK Representative of PT. Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PT. PSN) introduced satellite business and technology to academic community members of Program of Information Technology and Computer Science Universitas Brawijaya (PTIIK-UB). The event is held in the form of guest lecture on Thursday (3/10). The event is attended by Heru Dwikartono (Director of Network PT. PSN), Sigit Jatiputro (GM System Engineering PT. PSN and Secretary General of Indonesian Satellite Association), Andry Fertanto (People Development Manager PT. PSN) and Agustin B. Prabowo (Human Capital Manager PT. PSN). "So our objective in visiting PTIIK-UB is to introduce the technology and business of satellite, and PSN itself. We also want to find suitable resource," Heru Dwikartono said. On the guest lecture, the material presentation is given on four session. As the opening, Heru Dwikartono explained the profil of PT. PSN to the participants. He also gave information on satellite and its various uses. He explained that PT.PSN was established on 1991 with initial capital of Rp. 20 Million. Now the company has grown fast and become the foremost provider of telecommunication service in Asia. Although there has been many transmission media such as fiber optic and microwave, which is widely used in the development of information technology, Heru said that satellite telecommunication business is still very promising. This is because satellite technology is more economical to be provided for communication of far areas. For instance to design telecommunication to connect Sabang to Merauke, the usage of satellite only requires two equipments placed in two location points to save cost and time. "If it uses fiber optic, it will use a very large number of fiber optic-nya? If it uses microwave, it will need many towers built from Sabang to Merauke," as said by Heru Dwikartono. He also said that the business opportunity in satellite technology is big because there aren’t many people using it. Related to this, he gives an example of usage of satellite technology for subscription TV. "Nowadays, there aren’t many people using it. But in the next few years there will be many TV stations appearing, even reaching thousand. This can increase the use of subscription TV," he said. On the second session, Sigit continued the explanation about development of satellite technology in the world today. He said that many researches developed to improve efficiency and effectiveness of satellite technology. "In the past, the price of a satellite can be very expensive and mostof the funding is for disposable launcher. Yet with the development of technology, it is now possible that satellite can be designed smaller, using solar energy, and use reusable launcher. Thus, the price of satellite can be cheaper," Sigit said. Material of "Tips on Starting Career in Job Market" was then presented by Andry Fertanto and Agustin. To the fresh graduates, Andry advised that they shouldn’t be too focused on the amount of salary, but on getting experience. "With experience and performance track record, it will affect the reward thet you get," he said. At the event, it was also explained that PT. PSN open wide the opportunity for PTIIK students who are about to do research or internship in PT. PSN. "we have various data from satellite about coordinate points and various things that can be processed into an application or information system. So those who are interested to do research or internship in PSN may contact us through email to [email protected],” as said by Agustin at the end of the event.
