Why Does it Matter?
 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will

 Alcohol forbidden for kings and priests
o 8 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Aaron, saying, 9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee,
when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your
generations: 10 And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean; 11 And
that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD hath spoken unto them by the hand of

upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. 32 At the last it

utter perverse things. 34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the

wine inflame them! 12 And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard

captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up

 What about Jesus and the water to wine?
o 6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or
three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8
And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler
of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the
water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning
doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine
until now. 11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his
disciples believed on him. (John 2:6-11)
 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also,
that thou mayest look on their nakedness! (Hab 2:15)
o Simple processes existed to keep wine from fermenting and were regularly used during the time of Jesus’ earthly
ministry.
o Additionally, the “best wine” was also that “grape juice” that was processed with a distinctive and complex
distillation process that distinguished the taste and quality from that of everyday grape juice.
o Jesus also made special note that he would not drink of the fruit of the vine until he drinks it NEW with us in the
Father’s kindom.
 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new
with you in my Father’s kingdom. (Matt 26:29)
 NOTE: Fermentation is actually a decay and deterioration of the juice.

Do Any Biblical Principles Apply?
 Appearance of evil
o Abstain from all appearance of evil. (1 Thess 5:22)

o It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is
made weak. (Rom 14:21)
