Their focus is the legal and psycho-social care of citizens who have experienced rights violations. For this, their interdisciplinary team deals with the particularities of each individual case and works to keep citizens' ownership of their rights. They aim to contribute to the full exercise of citizenship and the development of a more humane, just and democratic society, by both direct implementation of programmes and projects and through influencing decisionmakers and advocating for policy and practice changes at national and local levels. Associação Brasileira Terra dos Homens The organization was founded in 1996 building on extensive experience in late and inter-racial adoption programmes and recognition that approximately 80% of children in institutions in Brazil have some sort of recoverable family bond. The institutional experience over the last 15 years includes not only reintegration to original families and communities, but also foster care and other alternatives forms of care. Terra dos Homens have defined a three-fold strategy for transformation of reality of children in jeopardy in Brazil. In 2002 it developed a capacity building program to empower local social welfare teams, thus allowing for its sound methodology to reach children in jeopardy all over Brazil. Also recognizing that it is public policy which makes advancements irreversible, Terra dos Homens have designed and implemented an effective advocacy programme. Ethiopia Forum for Sustainable Child Empowerment (FSCE) FSCE is an indigenous non profit NGO established in 1989 by a group of social development professionals who used to work in child-focused organizations. Its establishment was a response to the increased number of orphaned and abandoned children in Addis Ababa caused by the drought and famine of 1984/85. FSCE’s vision is to see the wellbeing and protection needs of children fulfilled. Currently, FSCE is implementing programs in five cities: Adama, Dessie, Bahir Dar, Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa in partnership with various governmental and nongovernmental organizations and through an active involvement of target communities including children. Guyana ChildLinK Inc. ChildLinK Inc. is a local NGO whose mandate is to give orphans and vulnerable children who are or risk being separated from their families or community a safe and secure future. ChildLinK’s vision is a Guyanese society where every child has the right to grow up in a safe and secure family and community. ChildLinK uses a children’s rights-based approach to achieve positive changes in the lives of vulnerable children in the short term and to contribute to the long term development of Guyana’s child protection system and transformation of society’s knowledge, attitudes and behaviours with regard to children’s rights to protection from abuse, exploitation and violence. ChildLinK programmes have provided counselling and capacity building directly to children, parents and caregivers, community groups and service providers. The programmes have also facilitated the development of child protection policies, procedures and tools for use by governmental and non-governmental organisations in Guyana. United Kingdom EveryChild UK EveryChild is an international development organisation working in 15 countries to ensure that girls and boys enjoy the right to a childhood in a safe, permanent and caring environment, free from poverty, violence and exploitation. We do this by promoting the supporting effective interventions that protect children outside of parental care (or at risk of losing parental care) and ultimately reduce the number of girls and boys who live apart from their parents or without appropriate alternative care. Our understanding evolves through evaluating our experience and learning from others and therefore, EveryChild believes in building and/or strengthening partnerships and alliances to achieve greater and long-lasting impact. Our understanding is also strongly influenced by our organisational values (e.g. participation, inclusivity, sustainability, innovation and accountability to all our stakeholders).
