Diploid strains heterozygous for recessive markers on the two arms of
chromosome V were constructed. The left arm is marked with can1/CAN1 and
the right arm is marked with hom3/HOM3.The can1 allele renders haploid cells
resistant to canavanine (Canr), while hom3 makes cells auxotrophic for
methionine (Met-). The heterozygous diploid is both Cans and Met+. In this
background we compared the homozygous wild-type (HHF1/HHF1) to the
homozygous hhf1-10/hhf1-10 mutant. Mitotic crossing over on the left arm of
chromosome V was assayed by scoring the frequency of Can r Met+
recombinants.
