Finding the Sale Price: Original Price – Discount = Sale Price
Mario Kart regularly sells for $40 is on sale for 25% off the original price with another 30% off the
discounted price. How much is Mario Kart?
Find the first discount and subtract to find the discounted price. Find the second discount and subtract from the
discounted price to find the FINAL sale price.
discount = percent of discount  original price
= 0.25  40.00
= 10.00
sale price = original price – discount
= 40.00 – 10.00
= 30.00  the discounted price is $30.00
AND THEN…
discount = percent of discount  discounted price
= 0.3  30.00
= 9.00
sale price = discounted price – discount
= 30.00 – 9.00
= 21.00  the FINAL sale price is $21.00
