FICA – INFORMATION REQUIRED
Individuals Acting on Behalf of Another Individual
The Financial Intelligence Act 38 of 2001 (“FICA”) requires all estate agents to verify client
information, including a client’s identity and residential address.
@Sold Properties must obtain the following information from a South African resident overseas:






Full name (s);
Date of birth;
Identity number (South African citizen); or
Passport number and nationality (foreign citizen);
Residential address; and
Contact particulars
For us to confirm your identity (South African or Non-South African) we require:
Your green identity document (“ID”) or, should your ID be lost or stolen, a sworn affidavit or police
statement, proof of your reapplication for an ID from Home Affairs, or


Your valid passport, or
Your valid card-type driver’s licence.
For us to verify your residential address you have to provide us with an approved document
containing your name and physical address (Po Box numbers ill not suffice), or stand number and
suburb.

Proof of an individual’s authority to act on behalf of a minor must be obtained by means of one of
the following:



A document issued by a local, provincial or national government recognising such
authority; or
A document issued by a court of law declaring or confirming such authority; and
The birth certificate or identity document or passport of such minor.
Proof of an individual’s authority to act on behalf of the relevant individual must be obtained by
means of one of the following documents:






A letter of appointment;
A power of attorney;
A mandate;
A written instruction;
A resolution duly executed by the authorised signatories; or
A court order authorising the third party to conduct business on behalf of another
person.
In all instances other than a court order, the written instruction should contain contact particulars of
the person/entity authorising the individual to establish the relationship with IHFM.
As a new client, please take note that you will be asked to provide the abovementioned information
at the commencement of our relationship.
As an existing client, please take note that you have to, if you have not done so already, submit the
abovementioned information to our offices. You can submit the identification information in an
electronic format (e.g. e-mail) and as existing client you are also allowed to submit the verification
documentation in an electronic format (i.e. scanned) to [email protected] .
Please ensure that the copies of the verification documentation are certified copies of the original.
