Living cells need energy for:
 Cell division
 Muscle contraction
 Maintaining body temperature
 Building large molecules (e.g. proteins)
Oxygen (a gas in the atmosphere) is needed to release energy
from food during aerobic respiration.
Aerobic respiration word equation:
Glucose + Oxygen
Energy + Water + Carbon Dioxide
Carbon dioxide is a waste product of respiration.
Heat energy is released from cells during respiration.
