Week: October 29-November 2
Standards:
RL.2.5 Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
RI.2.7. Explain how specific images contribute to and clarify a text.
L.2.4a Use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.
SL.2.3 Ask and answer questions about what a speaker says, in order to clarify
comprehension, gather additional information, or deepen understanding of a topic
or issue.
RL.2.10 By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories
and poetry, in the grades 2-3 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding
as needed at the high end of the range.

1. Introduce Vocabulary Cards using the SMARTboard and/or Vocabulary
Cards
2. Read “Trouble in the Lily Garden” found on T106-T107. (Part of it is on
Projectable 7.1) Talk about what conclusions the students can draw after
reading the story.
3. Complete vocabulary sentences

1. Read The Ugly Vegetables. Complete Projectable 7.5 together after reading
the story.
2. Do one of the vocabulary activities from pages 52-53 in the Word Study
book. (You choose….There are 5 to choose from.)
3. Have students complete page 94 in the practice book.

Proper Nouns
Standards:
L 2.2a Capitalize holidays, product names, and geographic names
Monday:
Write names for people and animals correctly
*Display Projectable 7.2. Explain that some nouns name special people or animals.
*Nouns that name special people or animals are called proper nouns. Proper nouns
begin with capital letters.
*Model identifying the proper nouns in the example sentence: I see Robert Smith
and his dog Bobo in the garden.
*Complete other examples on Projectable 7.2 with children.
*Students will complete page 92 in the practice book.
Tuesday:
Writing names for places correctly
*Display Projectable 7.6. Explain that some proper nouns name special places.
Remind children that all proper nouns begin with capital letters.
*Point out that some names of places, such as Elm Street, are made up of two
words that each word begins with a capital letter.
*Model identifying a proper noun that names a special place. Use the example
sentence: Flowers grow all around the Lakeside.
*Complete Projectable 7.6
*Students will complete page 97 in the practice book.
Wednesday:
Write names for people, animals, and places correctly
*Review with children that proper nouns name special people, animals, and places.
*Remind them to write the first letter of a proper noun with a capital letter.
*Write: My friend greg lives on park street. Have them capitalize the sentence
correctly.
*Have students complete page 101 in the practice book.
Thursday*Students will take the grammar assessment.

*Homework: Tic Tac Toe Spelling (Choose One)
Tuesday:
*Pattern Sort on page 52 in the TE Book. Students will do this in their Word Study
Journals.
*Homework: Tic Tac Toe Spelling (Choose One)
Wednesday:
*Open Sort on page 53 in TE Book.
*Homework: Tic Tac Toe Spelling (Choose One)
Thursday:
*Word Hunt on page 53 in TE Book. Students will do this in their Word Study Journals.
*Homework: Tic Tac Toe Spelling (Choose One)
Friday:
*Give Spelling Assessment. I will email you the sentences.
