KEY VOCABULARY. Galaxy: It is an enormous cloud of stars and other celestial bodies. Celestial body: All the things we can find in the universe ( galaxies, stars, planets, satellites, asteroids, comets and meteorites ) Star: A celestial body made of gas. It has a spherical shape. It produces heat and light. Natural satellite: small celestial bodies that revolve around planets. For example: the Moon. Asteroid: They are bodies of rock. Comet: They are bodies of rock and ice. They revolve around the Sun. They produce a bright tail of water vapour and gas. Meteorite: They are small pieces of rock from asteroids and comets. They are also called shooting stars. They produce a tail of light. Rotation: The movement of a plant or star over an imaginary axis in an anticlockwise direction. Revolution: The orbit of a planet or star. The Sun revolves around the Milky Way. The Earth revolves the Sun. The Moon revolves the Earth. Lunar phases: The different phases the Moon goes through in 28 days. Eclipse: It occurs when the Earth, Moon and Sun are in the same line. There are two eclipses: solar and lunar. KEY EXPRESSIONS The Sun is a star that produces light and heat. The Milky Way has a spiral shape. We can classify the stars by there colour and size. Stars can be giant or dwarfs. Natural satellites revolve around planets. The Earth takes 24 hours to complete one rotation and one year to revolver around the Sun. The moon takes 28 days to complete one orbit.
