Mike Klein’s Comments on Draft Siddur
Page 59, 2nd paragraph: Is the word “made” or some other verb missing in between “avenges us
to Pharaoh” and “and signs and wonders”?
Page 59, Bamster piece: I hate to ask, but should “messianicism” be “messianism”?
Page 63: I think “council” should be “counsel”; ‘till should either be ’til or till (I prefer the
former)
Page 68, marginal note: I’d delete the comma after “known as”
Page 69, marginal piece: “has traveled” should be “have traveled”?
Page 71: “remu7embers” is one of the great typos of all time
Page 71, Borowitz quote: should the comma between “God” and “a covenant” be a period?
Page 73, middle of page: should there be a period between “sanctified it” and “You called it”?
Page 73, Irit’s piece: I think “who we forsake” should be “whom we forsake”
Page 75, Heschel quote: “seveth” should be “seventh”
Page 77, first prayer: are there some words or punctuation missing? It doesn’t read quite right to
me.
Page 79, Mendelsohn quote: insert comma between “my birthright” and “my legacy”?; need a
period after ellipsis?
Pae 80, Bahai prayer: “judgement” should be “judgment”
Page 81, first line: is there a word or punctuation missing?
Page 82, marginal note: “than by bowing” should be “then by bowing”
Page 85, Rabbi Green quote: need a period after each ellipsis
Page 86, first paragraph, last sentence: I’d put a comma after “We are imperfect”
Page 90, last marginal note: “than by bowing” should be “then by bowing”
Continuation of Mike Klein’s Review
Page 92, Stevenson speech: You should label it as “An Address to the Class of 1954.” The title
of the speech was The Educated Citizen, which you can also use. Stevenson made the speech in
March, after the senior class banquet. As you’ll learn, Princeton has no commencement speakers
other than the university president, the salutatorian, and the valedictorian.
Page 93, prayer over the college student: is there punctuation or a word missing between
“morals” and “understanding”?
Page 93, second marginal piece: do you want to label is “Optional introduction to Motzi,” or
something fun like that?
Page 95, second paragraph: should “After” be lower case?
Page 99, third paragraph: “greateness” should be greatness
Page 100: In my day, the next-to-last line was “Her sons will give while they shall live,” and
I’m still not used to the politically correct version…
