SNC1P0 Ohm's Law A German scientist named Georg Simon Ohm was able to relate electrical current, voltage and resistance mathematically with an equation called Ohm's Law. Ohm's law : V=IxR V is voltage in volts; I is current in amperes; R is resistance in Ω (ohms) Ohm's law can be re arranged to solve for all three quantities as shown below V=IxR I=V/R R=V/I Use these equations to solve the problems below on a separate sheet of paper. Answers will be provided tomorrow. 1. What is the resistance in a circuit that has a current of 0.75A and a voltage drop of 60V across the cell? 2. What is the voltage drop across an alarm clock that is connected to a circuit with a current of 1.10A and a resistance of 90 ohms? 3. What is the current in a circuit that has a resistance of 75 ohms and a voltage drop of 120V across the cell? 4. What is the voltage drop across a TV that has a resistance of 150 ohms and a current of 1.2A? 5. What is the resistance in a circuit that has a current of 2.5A and a voltage drop of 90V? 6. What is the current in a circuit that has a resistance of 65 ohms and a voltage drop of 135V across a light bulb? 7. A nine volt battery supplies power to a cordless curling iron with a resistance of 18 ohms. How much current is flowing through the curling iron? 8. A 110 volt wall outlet supplies power to a strobe light with a resistance of 2200 ohms. How much current is flowing through the strobe light? 9. A CD player with a resistance of 40 ohms has a current of 0.1 amps flowing through it. Sketch the circuit diagram and calculate how many volts supply the CD player? 10. What current flows between a potential difference of 120 V through a resistance of 30 ohms? 11. A motor with an operating resistance of 30 ohms is connected to a voltage source. 4.0 A of current flow in the circuit. What is the voltage of the source? 12. An ammeter measures current. What will the ammeter read when it is connected to a 90 V source and a 60 ohm resistor? 13. Draw a diagram to illustrate the circuit from question 13. The symbol for an ammeter is the letter “A” within a circle. 14. Draw a circuit diagram that includes a 16 ohm resistor, a battery and an ammeter reading 1.75 A. What will the voltmeter read when it is attached to the battery?
