Infectious Disease Prevention
Infectious diseases, also known as communicable diseases, are illnesses resulting
from human infection with pathogenic biologic germs, such as viruses or bacteria.
Measles, influenza, and tuberculosis are examples of infectious diseases.
Infectious diseases can be spread through person-to-person contact, bodily fluids,
airborne inhalation, contaminated food, or insects.
While the spread of some infectious diseases can be minimized with good public
health measures, such as thorough handwashing or proper sanitation, many
diseases can be prevented through immunization.
