How New Species Form
• Geographic Isolation
– New species form when members of a species
become isolated
• Example: Australia has organisms found nowhere else
(i.e. kangaroos and koalas)
Extinction of Species
• Extinction is caused by a change in the
environment that the species can’t adapt to
fast enough.
– Climate change is the leading cause of extinction
