Jin Hi Kim Jin Hi Kim is highly acclaimed as both an innovative komungo (Korean fourth century fretted board zither) virtuoso and for her cross-cultural compositions. Over two decades Kim has introduced the Korean indigenous komungo for the first time into Western contemporary music with her wide array of compositions for chamber ensemble, orchestra, multicultural ensembles, and avant-garde improvisations. Kim’s works have been presented on the main stages of significant cultural venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Smithsonian Freer Gallery of Art, Royal Festival Hall (London), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), Musique Action Festival (France), Alternativa Contemporary Music Festival (Moscow), Moers New Jazz Festival (Germany), and the Vancouver International Jazz Festival among many others. She has appeared as a soloist for her compositions with American Composers Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Stanford Symphony, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Key West Symphony, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Kairos String Quartet (Berlin) and many others. Kim was awarded the 2000-2001 American Composers Orchestra Composer Fellowship. She received the Award for Music Composition from the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Art which was created by John Cage and Jasper Johns to support innovative creative work in the arts. She is a recipient of the residence fellowship for the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center, Italy and the Asian Cultural Council fellowship in Japan.
