Work Hard – Get Smart – No Excuses. Scientist’s Name: _________________________ SO MANY BODY SYSTEMS!!! How do the Respiratory System and the Circulatory System work together?? __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ _______________________________ _______________________________ ________________________ Excretory System Digestive System Work Hard – Get Smart – No Excuses. Immune System Nervous System Scientist’s Name: _________________________ Work Hard – Get Smart – No Excuses. Scientist’s Name: _________________________ Work Hard – Get Smart – No Excuses. Scientist’s Name: _________________________ Main Function/What does the system do for your body? The nervous system is the body’s control system. It sends and receives messages through out the body. The messages tell your body, muscles, and organs what to do and how to respond to the environment. Main Parts: Brain, nerves, spinal cord Other: The nervous system basically controls the other systems and directs them what to do Main Function/What does the system do for your body? The circulatory system transports oxygen and blood through out the body, which all parts of the body needs. It helps the body maintain healthy levels of oxygen and nutrients. It pumps blood full of oxygen to all of the cells in the body and pumps blood without oxygen back to the heart to get more oxygen and gets rid of waste products. Main Parts: The heart, blood, veins, arteries, blood vessels Other: The circulatory system works closely with the respiratory system. It distributes the oxygen that the respiratory system brings in. Main Function/What does the system do for your body? Your respiratory system brings oxygen into your body and removes carbon dioxide and wastes from your body. Main Parts: Lungs, trachea, nose, mouth Other: The respiratory system works closely with the circulatory system. It brings oxygen into the body and the circulatory system distributes the oxygen. Main Function/What does the system do for your body? The immune system is your body’s defense army system. It protects your body from sickness, disease, bacteria, infections, viruses, etc. It also helps your body get better after you are sick. Main Parts: cells and vessels all throughout your body Immune System Other: Work Hard – Get Smart – No Excuses. Scientist’s Name: _________________________ Main Function/What does the system do for your body? The endocrine system is full of glands and organs through out your body that release “hormones” that tell your body what to do…for example growth hormones that tell your body to grow. Main Parts: Glands and hormones Other: Endocrine System Main Function/What does the system do for your body? The digestive system breaks down food and absorbs nutrients, giving your body the energy and nutrients it needs for growing and repairing. Main Parts: mouth, esophagus, liver, stomach, gall bladder, pancreas, large intestine, small intestine Other: Food enters the mouth, then goes down the esophagus, then to the stomach where it is broken down by acids and then travels to the intestines where nutrients are taken out and enter the bloodstream. Main Function/What does the system do for your body? The kidneys filter your blood and get rid of waste from your body through urine (pee) Main Parts: kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra Other: Main Function/What does the system do for your body? The skeletal system gives your body structure. It supports and protects all of your other body systems. Main Parts: bones, ligaments, tendons Other: Main Function/What does the system do for your body? The muscular system works together with the skeletal system to help the body move! Main Parts: Voluntary Muscles are the muscles you choose to move like your arm and leg muscles. Involuntary Muscles are the muscles that move automatically on their own, like your heart beating and your lungs breathing!
